False negatives

What are the reasons for a false negatives?

So even if I was in category for underlying conditions etcetc 6 months is more than long enough ?

Actually, autoimmune disorders (like RA, Lyme's) would not affect seroconversion, only people that are severely immuno-compromised, like the examples Vance gave, someone with end stage terminal cancer, chemo patients, patients taking anti-rejection medications post organ transplant.

And actually, while people in those populations may be advised to test out to 6 months, with the advancements in HIV testing, they would not typically need a longer window period than the standard 3 months.

To put it plainly, if a person was one who would meet the criteria to need to test longer, they would know, because they would be under close care of a physician.  You have no worries.

Unprotected vaginal sex, 6 months I tested, was negative. Just wondered what those medical conditions were incase they were underlying. If there were underlying conditions would 6 months be long enough?

I was not advised of any different window periods. What are the medical conditions that cause a false negative ?

Yes and the person is advised of that when testing and has a different window period.

Testing not done in correct time frame (person still in window period).
