Are the risks different in different regions of the world?

Dear LizzieLou/Teak, I am a man and have had a recent encounter comprising of receiving protected oral and fingering a female sex worker. Initially I was worried that having put on the condom just after fingering her I could have contaminated the inside of the condom with her vaginal fluid and therefore was at some level of risk. But after having gone through your extraordinarily insightful site I am now assured that there was no risk at all. Thanks to both of you and your team of doctors.

However, I have one question. Does the risk of HIV transmission very from one region of the world to the other if the HIV strain varies? If so, in my case, as the incident happened in India, would there be any real variation in risk asessment in my sexual encounter.

hiv is transmitted / contracted in the same manner...regardless of where you're from.

Just to let you know that I have tested negative at 90 days. Your support and advice helped a lot to pull me through the period of anxiety and tension. Thanks a lot.

A footnote: A common saying in HIV risk assessment is that it is as possible as lightning striking your house. Well, lightning really did strike my house within my window period, and I simply didn't know what to make of it. Speak of coincidences.

Thanks again Lizzie and all the others.
