one time unprotected sex with Vietnam prostitute

Hi,

I am Male 36 yrs and I had unprotected paid sex with a Vietnam girl. Looking at her she was clean and had no rashes on her genitals. I am also clean and do not have any other STD's. I had unprotected sex only 1 time. Kindly tell me risk of infecting with HIV by this encounter. I am not Gay, nor on any other drugs.

as mentioned by the others there is a risk. If you only have had one unprotected vaginal encounter as a male the chance of having done it with a girl who is hiv positive (in Vietnam the prevelance is 0,47%) and also in Vietnam it's not completely different from the rest of the world in terms that more then 50% is MSM around 10 to 15% is IV drug user (maybe in Vietnam IV is even bigger and also transfusions infections). So of all the (females 24 - 54 of age there are 21M there) there would be less then 30k having HIV. So your chance is really not huge. Next to this the chance per act of vaginal sex for a male is only 0,05 to 0,10%. The odds are in your favour you don't have HIV! But there is a chance so get tested. Did you already tested for other STD's? Because Chlamydia, Sphylis (prevelance in Vietnam is higher for this with woman, than in the western countries), Gon are much more infectious than HIV is.

Ps. did you have Hep-B vaccination? This because in Asia the prevelance is pretty high for Hep-B. But to be honest, not through sex, but most people got it there when they were infants or by blood transfusion/tatoo etc.But still because of the prevelance the chance is still there!

Just take an antibody test any time now for a conclusive result. HIV is an odds game. As you mentioned, the risk wouldn't usually be as high as maybe an MSM encounter and certainly less than sharing needles, nonetheless, it is a risk, and you must get tested.

I would get tested and my anxiety-ridden mind would convince me that I am + and that it is the end of the world before getting a test result. DO NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP. The odds are very much in your favour that you did not contract HIV from this single encounter. With that said, this was still a high risk exposure. And the only way to be absolutely certain that you do not have HIV or any STI for that matter is to get tested. Take care.
