Post PEP Window - Do I still need to worry ?

Hey,
You'll see from my previous post that I had a high risk exposure with a HIV Positive man (unprotected insertive anal) and started PEP 12 hours later. I completed my full course and had a HIV test immediately after completion then again at 6 weeks post PEP. Negative, thankfully.

It's now 10 weeks post PEP, do I need to go get tested again ? And if so, what's the chance that a test 6 weeks post PEP could be wrong ?

Thanks,
Michael

Thankyou.  I'll give it another few weeks then I'll go back, that way it'll be 3 months post pep.  I'm not sure what generation it was, it was a pretty popular sexual health place in sydney - they did the rapid test and also sent bloods off, so I'm assuming they will be using pretty modern technology - hopefully!

Everytime I feel at all I'll or have a sore throat (which I commonly have) I get the absolute panic and worry again :(

Hello, when someone has been on PEP the window period resets, starting at the end PEP.

If the test you took at six weeks after finishing PEP was a 4th gen, it'd be almost as good as conclusive and unlikely to change, but you should confirm with a test after the three months mark.

Hope this helps.
