Poked by something sharp - do I need to worry?

Good afternoon, all! I've done a little bit of research on this, but have seen conflicting reports/studies/advice.

I am an American living on the West Coast. Over the weekend, my feet were hurting and I took off my shoes for about 5 minutes to walk through a busy casino in Las Vegas. While walking, I felt a sharp pain like I stepped on something on the carpet in the casino. I touched my foot to brush it off, but couldn't feel anything that was attached. I did not look back at what it was as I was trying to catch up with my friends - I assumed I stepped on a small piece of glass or an earring, etc. Of course the next morning, my mind went to worst case scenario - what if I stepped on a discarded needle used by an IV drug user?

I checked my foot and noticed a small red dot, but no bleeding. I'm honestly not even sure if that was the exact place that I felt the pain as I was intoxicated.

If I had, in fact, stepped on a discarded needle, what are the chances that I could be infected with HIV? Would you recommend testing at 3 months? I'm in a long term relationship (we have both been tested previously and have not been with others), and I am afraid to have intercourse with my significant other until I see a negative result.

Thanks for your response ahead of time.

It has to be injected and no one would be on the floor doing that. Even if they were also intoxicated.
HIV is instantly inactivated in air which is why it has to be injected, and sharing needles is the only way other than anal or vaginal sex that people get it, so you are safe.

A condom protects against vaginal or anal transmission, which is something I omitted, so only unprotected penetrating anal or vaginal is a risk.
Thanks, I'm monogamous and this is the only "risk" I've had. I'm not even really sure what poked me in the foot, but I assumed it was a discarded needle since Vegas is a party town.
