Aching legs in bed

Silly question: I know people with heart disease may struggle with edema in the legs when they stand too long. I do not have heart disease, just a life time of various arrhythmias, have had 3 catheter ablations to improve them a bit. But for the last year I notice at night time my legs seem to feel heavy and ache, not cramping. This happens a few hours after I've been asleep and wakes me up. My legs are elevated and circulation should be just fine. I think this is a bit odd. During the day I'm on my feet a lot, up and down stairs, going here and there. At work I'm up and down step ladders, up and down the hill to the mews, a very active kind of work. Just wondering. . . . .

I had PAD at one time when my CAD was really ramping up.  Like Chatty, I had to push through the ankle pain that intensified at about the 1/2 mile level and it eased up, only to return again at night.  I had like Mom2 suggests the ultrasound on my legs and it confirmed they had deposits causing the pain.  In my case, statins and regular aerobic exercise gave me complete and continuing relief.

Yes, I agree with Mom.  Ask your doctor about the doppler also. Never hurts.  I have had 2 stents to open up blocked arteries to my legs.  I have another one working on me now.  But my pain is felt when walking. It can be really bad.  I have to push myself to work through the pain to get my 3 miles in. The pain gets easier to deal with at the 1 mile mark.  Take care, Ally.

Those are ideas I hadn't considered. Thank you both very much. I won't be seeing my doctor for another year (I hope) but this can wait. There's no discoloration or deep pain. I don't consider "ache" the same as pain so I'll let it go for now. It's just something I've never had before.

happens to me quite a bit also asleep or awake; my dr gave me a script to have a bilateral venous ultrasound with pressures to see what's going on...maybe ask your dr about doing one?

I might be wrong but something in my mind relates pain in bed with rheumatic problems. Could it be?
