Anything sound like this?

So back in November of 2008, I all of a sudden experienced strong palpitations from my heart everytime I ate solid food. Coupled by the fact that I could actually feel the sensation of my heart all of a sudden, my BP was around 160/100. Years later my BP is more or less controlled with Atenolol, HCTZ, and I'm taking Tricor for high triglycerides--not high cholesterol mind you, because my total, LDL and HDL are perfectly normal. I also take Synthroid for my thyroid that was taken out but none of the above symtpoms have changed before or after the removal of the thyroid.

So here's the rub--even though my BP is under control, this all feels like my body is anxious. I'm not anxious, mind you--I'm a pretty chill person--but sometimes when my heart gets racing from some quick activity like running up the stairs, the after effect makes me feel as though my body is responding to anxiety. Even when sitting down, sometimes my heart just starts to pound, and I can feel my veins throbbing from it like if I touch my carotid artery or where the nurse checks your heart rate on your wrist.

I've had an EKG, echocardiogram and stress test--they can't find anything wrong with my heart. The only thing that is outstanding is a hemorrhoid that bleeds most times due from agitation (wiping). When I put some things together, it almost sounds like I have some sort of anemia...but my hemorrhoid wouldn't be bleeding enough for that, would it? All I can say is that my body sometimes feels like I have a presentation due in a few hours. What causes physical anxiety without the mental aspect causing it?

So I tried a magnesium supplement--it was on sale :-) I think the dosage was 66% of the recommended daily value of magnesium. My blood pressure went up a little it seemed and my face and neck felt like they became dramatically warmer with my head looking a little red. Didn't feel too great for a few hours but then I felt fine. I think perhaps there is some reaction to the diuretic that I'm taking? Not sure.

Drug side effects are always possible. Then there are deficiency states. One in particular is magnesium deficiency.

It has been found that 4 out of 5 people in the US (or 80%) are deficient in magnesium. If you are experiencing 2 or 3 of the following symptoms, you probably are one of them.

- heart palpitations, heart arrythmias
- chest tightness
- urinary spasms
- constipation
- menstrual cramps, premenstrual irritability
- difficulty swallowing, a feeling of a lump in the throat
- insomnia
- light sensitivity, loud noise sensitivity
- high blood pressure
- numbness, tingling, zips, zaps and other vibratory sensations
- being uptight or prone to temper
- muscle twitches, soreness, cramps, spasms, tension, tightness
- back aches, neck pain
- headaches, migraines
- jaw joint problems
- needing to sigh a lot, unable to take a deep breath
- hiccups
- constipation
- leg spasms, charlie horses, restless leg syndrome
- anxiety, panic attacks
- hyperactivity
- angina

Just FYI, without the Atenolol or HCTZ, my heart is easily stressed, bringing on strong palpitations along with longer periods of high blood pressure. My heart also races and feels like it's about to beat out of my chest. But apparently no issue with my heart that they can find. Wore one of those 24 monitors too.
