A blood test can detect if you have a high level of Troponin I which means that heart tissue is being damaged through lack of oxygen. An EKG can sometimes give signs of CAD because a lack of oxygen to certain areas can alter the way the heart is working, affecting the electrical impulses. There are cases however that show normal on an EKG but can still have severe CAD. This doesn't mean the test is a waste of time because it does give plenty of valuable information about how the heart is operating.
