Need a second opinion

My 13 year old grandson has ventricular tachycardia.  He has been on various medication for several years but they have been unsuccessful.  They have tried several ablations three different times, once in children's hospital in Pittsburgh and twice at Children's hospital in Boston.  His heart beats fast about 90 percent of the time.  They have suggested trying an alcohol septal ablation.  Is there someone else out there that has had this done and where did you have it done. Or know of a doctor or hospital that does this procedure?

Q: To: haileyreI haven't heard of anyone having an alcohol septal ablation, but there may be some in the heart rhythm forum who have had it.

I would suggest the forum for children for anyone who has a child requiring medical treatment. There are members who have experienced health problems with their children, grandchildren, etc. and can provide medical information and support. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Pediatric-Cardiology/show/302

"Alchohol septal ablationWhen compared to surgical myectomy, similar outcomes are noted out to approximatly  5 years.[1] However, a prospective, randomized trial has not been performed. Despite initial concerns regarding long-term arrhythmic potential of alcohol septal ablation, no increased risk has been noted to date. It is important to note that patients who fail to respond to alcohol septal ablation may still be candidates for surgical myectomy. Likewise, patients who fail surgical myectomy may still respond to alcohol septal ablation.[2] Which patients are best served by surgical myectomy, alcohol septal ablation, or medical therapy is an important topic and one which is intensely debated in medical scientific circles".

You can contact the Cleveland Clinic or Mayo Clinic for details of any treatment for your grandson. Also, you can go to the expert forum...p://www.medhelp.org/forums/Heart-Disease/show/114.  ;

Thanks for selecting the heart disease forum and sharing, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  I wish your grandson well going forward.  Take care

I haven't heard of anyone having an alcohol septal ablation, but there may be some in the heart rhythm forum who have had it - http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Heart-Rhythm/show/92 you may want to post there also if you haven't.

Vt's are very difficult to treat and ablate sometimes, did they dx him with HCM or something else?  It's important to find out what's causing his VT.

I've had arrhythmia's with VT being one of them since age 9 and it took until I was 42 to get help and find out what was wrong.  I have a rare form of VT that causes my heart to stop and had a pacemaker/icd implanted to help with my low/high hr's.

My Boston Scientific Teligen 100 has an Anti-tachycardia pacing (ATP) system that delivers very small amounts of energy to my heart when it gets to 180 to slow my HR go it won't go into VFib again.
