Pain in the chest

I am getting a pain sometimes in the middle of my chest leading to the left side, the pain is sharp but is not consistant? I feel the pain when i take deep breaths and is exactly where my nipple is but in the middle of my chest leading to the left.

Also goes away at times but i feel the pain to it's full extent in the morning when i wake up? I excersise as normall and dont feel the pain then?

It has been 10 days since the pain started and i am scared to go to the doctors as i hate operations or anything like that. I also smoke and i am close to stopping as i have cut down?

Usually taking a deep breath pain is not a heart issue, however, the exception would be complications of pericarditis including constrictive pericarditis and pericardial effusion. For some insight there is a sac that surrounds the heart and in between the sac and heart muscle there exists some fluids that aids the heart's functionality and complications include inflammation (pericarditis) with pericardial effusion.

"I feel the pain when i take deep breaths"
Breathing doesn't affect pain caused by the heart. One of the first questions I am always asked when having MI is "does it hurt more or less when you breath in". Heart pain is constant. Both of my occurrences of MI showed no difference in the way I breathed.

Never be scare from doctors or from the truth. Many things you can be scare about. For example about things you can control, but you don’t. So in your case you can be scare about yourself, because you are the enemy of your health. You close stopping? How close? Celebrate the end date of your smoking past soon! That is what I hope for you! It can be your lung, not your heart. I congratulate on your recognition and effort.  And call up a doctor  for an appointment better be safe,  knowing is power no matter what :good or bad!!
