amiodarone alternatives

amiodarone alternatives
by butwhat, 48 minutes ago
I was told bt a cardiologist that there is now a good alternative to amiodarone. I thought he was saying Amtak but apparently I was wrong. Any guesses as to what the medication is?
I have my doubts that I should be on amiodarone with my lung issues.
I have been getting kind of cloggy since  I have been on it. Clearing my throat or feeling like I can't clear my throat.
Will I receive email notification?

Oh, I forgot to mention, my EP wants to switch me to Amiodarone and I am really resistant because of the side effects. I'm currently on Sotalol because my primary problem is Vtach and Amiodarone is indicated because it controls both Afib and Vfib. I too have had problems with chronic bronchitis and occassional wheezing but I'm more concerned about the great number of other side effects!

There is a current study on something called ATI-2042 but it is only in early trials. It metabolizes faster in your body preventing some of the toxicity problems associated with amiodarone. Really, really early but could be promising!

I believe you are talking about Dronedarone, which is marketed under the name Multak. It is manufactured by  Sanofi-Aventis and is specifically for Afib and flutter.

Unfortunately it too has some serious side effects including liver failure. The wiki page describes everything about it.

Hope that helps!
