What does it mean if my treadmill stress test was stopped after five minutes?

49 yr old woman with shortness of breath, edema, and angina.   I finished the warm up and then at level two the treadmill tilted and I was stopped at only two minutes in as my heart rate was at 96%.   My total treadmill time was 5 min 6 secs.  Beginning blood pressure was 148/98 and rose to 168/103 and recovered to 148/103.  Beginning and ending heart rate after recovery was 110.

No.  I had a METS score of 4.6.   I am out of shape now as a result of not being able to exercise anymore, but I wasn't at all when my problems started.  I did a 100 mile backpacking trip just the summer before the chest pains began.   Now I have to rest several times just getting ready for work in the mornings.

I'm just trying to figure out if this will force my doctor to finally acknowledge that something is seriously wrong or will he just pass it off as out of shape and continue to ignore me.

Who's your doctor?  If you have documented "shortness of breath, edema, and angina," I see no way to 'pass it off.'

With those symptoms confirmed by an MD, you should be under the care of a cardiologist, of course, not a PCP in general medicine.
