I wonder if the cath found elevated 'central pressure' and that's why the doc stopped the atenolol.
IOW, atenolol can be a danger, when heart rate is lowered and the pressure in the aorta, coronary arteries and even brain rises.
There is a study showing that beta blockade, especially perhaps through atenolol, actually increases MI in HTN patients.
thank you for your help, I was fully aware of the instructions to stop Atenotol, but did not have a chance to talk to the cardiologist again before I left the hospital, the nurse told me, don't even take it tonight.I will see him next week and ask why nothing was prescribed for the BP, and I did not stop cold turkey.
Thank you again.
From what I unsderstand, it's not good to stop Atenolol cold turkey; you should taper off. Did they put you on some other medication for blood pressure? That seems strange that he would stop the medication as a result of the cath results, without putting you on something else instead.
Maybe check with the doctor's office to make sure that you understood correctly. Sometimes the nurses and docs give instructions while patients are still groggy from procedures, and it's easy to get things mixed up. I've seen this happen before with family members and heart catherizations.
