I feel cheated!

Sorry this is more of a rant of something I've seen lately than anything else; not meant to offend anyone but I have a HUGE issue with something and no I'm not dissing MH - I just get frustrated with it sometimes...esp the lack of edit button lol

2 or 3 times in the past months I've seen a doctor answer in this forum - normally they answer a new member and they won't address those posters who have been here many for years who have legitmate concerns and questions!  how do they pick and choose what questions to be answered? I've tried to see what they answer hoping it's something that may relate to others who post with questions also.

sorry, it may be the pain from my spine talking or the irritability of knowing there IS a doctor here who can answer questions...I've asked questions in the expert forum and noticed for a few weeks doctors there also didn't answer and left many unanswered.

hate to be a nuisance sorry

While I agree that it would be nice to have medical input at times I am beginning to learn that even they have no answers for some of the questions and concerns we raise on this forum.  Also, I don't think many docs are comfortable giving out information without having patient records handy or some time to think about the problem before giving their opinion.  Once they start answering posts they are going to be questioned, as you are doing , as to why don't they answer more.  I am learning more from our personal experiences with their doctors/medication than I wold from a doctor.   A second vote for an edit button.
That's my 2 cents.

I wish they would at least bring back the heart rhythm expert forum if they're going to visit here and answer questions :(

it's just frustrating to know they are here and there are millions of us who would like help from a "doctor" (this post wasn't so much about me - there are no answers for me)

I guess that's one of my faults, I'm an all or nothing person - either answer all or none - just kind of weird a doctor answers questions in a "peer to peer" based forum where some are going to feel left out.

I guess we can all dream for that edit button hehehe

Have you seen this web site? - http://www.allexperts.com/ep/964-118208/Heart-Cardiology/doctort-cardiac-risk.htm

He doesn't answer many questions and  his answers are pretty much what one would expect from an on-line doctor.

when I first started back in July 2009, all experts was one of the first places I asked. The dr's there seemed so knowledgeable and answered questions quickly.  I was being pushed to have an ablation and being told I could die if I didn't which scared the heck out of me - I didn't feel sick.

I don't know dr pearl, but dr richardson is one of the ones who convinced me that pvc's were nothing to worry about and I had nothing wrong with me after I faxed him all of my medical records.

17 doctors later there's still nothing wrong with me...my echo is great and I have no heart damage or ischemic problems just a titanium box in my chest to prevent my heart from stopping again...

I'll go back to hiding in my corner now and won't ask any more questions :P

Lisa,

Internet forums are great dealing with "is my heart rate too high during exercise" and "what is the occational skipped beat I feel when going to bed at night".

I understand your frustration, but did you really (think for a while before you answer) think that a cardiologist here would be able to provide a miracle solution to your problems?

Your problems are complex and not something anyone can solve through a forum. You did suggest a solution earlier, to visit a major clinic like Cleveland. In the meantime, you are really helpful here, so I just hope you'll stay :)

This wasn't really about me as I stated, it's frustrating that a doctor comes in a patient to patient forum and answers some person that's only just registered asked instead of others...which is bound to make some waves...I was just questioning WHY do that when there are those who have been here years and have valid questions yet they aren't answered.

Doctor's who treat me in person can't even figure out what's wrong with me; how would I ever expect a doctor who's not seen me to do it? The CC dr did give me some info for my cardiologist about sarcoidoisis & amloydosis; who laughed and said you don't have that without even checking or exploring them - and basically said patients shouldn't listen to the advice we get here from the experts ("internet doctors")

I can't go to CC or Mayo, Vanderbilt or anywhere else now, financially it's a struggle to even pay for my medical insurance ($352) and meds ($500) because now I don't work at all. I've been fighting disability since surgery but they tell me I'm fine and take a taxi to work since I can't drive. Plus with all the other tests & doctors things I've had in 2011, I've used all my family savings - $7,000 out of pocket on top of insurance premiums so far.

I have a weird sense of humor - some get it some don't - normally I'm not serious and I guess I think others can "read" between the lines and see the humor - another major fault of mine...I'm on a roll here today I guess...

I'm confused though...never said I was leaving; I was joking with curmudgen about going back to my corner to hide...jokingly - sorry takes forever to type now and to explain every joking thing I say will be hard so I'll keep it out of replies :P

I don't get answers either - and also usually not from fellow sufferers. Dunno? haven't offended anybody; maybe my problems are too unusual. I know how you feel.

Have you tried the heart disease expert forum? The dr there did give me alot of useful info but my cardiologist just dismissed it - so i'm on to another cardiologist at a teaching univeristy that my insurance will cover until I get new insurance or can afford the cost of Vanderbilt CC or Mayo Clinic.

The dr's in the expert forum have so many questions and I've suggested a sticky Q&A in this forum so some of the new people posting could read the FAQ's and see the answers from doctors, but that may be too much to implement.  I've seen many questions go unanswered; then they will pick up a few days later ignoring the previous posts...when it started happening in this forum I started to wonder why.

I should have worded the topic differently - another major flaw...but if we had an edit button I could have edited it.... LOL [beats the dead horse]

I vote for an "edit" button too. Most of the other forums I go to have one and it is sure handy.

HA. I keed, I keed.  :-)

Some forums don't allow edits.  There's a coupla reasons

It can be abused by spammers.  They will start a legit seeming thread and let it go.  People post in it.  When it quiets down they go back and edit in SPAM under radar which will show up to people who search.

Another reason is that someone can post something that upsets others.  Others react in the thread, then the OP goes back and edits out the issue, then the thread doesn't make any sense.

MH is doing a good job for the resources they have peeps, but they do listen for enhancements requests.  Post here: It's located in the "members community" board located here http://www.medhelp.org/forums/MedHelp-Members-/show/744

ohhhh you had me going there and I was getting excited!

I can see both sides and been on both sides of what you're saying here.  Some sites let you edit within a minute - that would be handy for typo's, some sites you can't edit at all; MH is a great site and a lot less moderated than some.

I have one site I go to that has these hidden rules, that if you break them they knock your name down to guest then take your account and won't even explain why.... their response is - we at XX XX expect you to read, know and follow the [hidden] rules - don't even think about asking questions in your journal there - it's against the hidden rules lol for istance - today my back is killing me and I can't figure out why? any idea what I should do or take? [bam] your account is knocked down :P

thanks for the link I'm going to check it out

Hi everyone -

An edit button is something we discuss from time to time, and it may happen at some point.  Itdood gave some good reasons why we don't have it now, and I'd like to add that it could really disrupt the flow of some conversations if someone changed their post or deleted their post halfway through a thread.  One option we've discussed is allowing an edit for a certain amount of time after the post.

I can't answer about why the docs answer some questions, and not others.  I will check on that, though.

We have a Suggestions forum that is actually better for, well, suggestions.  We welcome all feedback, good and bad.  http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Improve-MedHelp-Suggestions/show/110?camp=msc

Please let myself or one of the mods know if you have concerns.  We really are here to help.

Emily

thanks Emily; I think everyone who would like an edit button should read the suggestion forum Emily posted - even the one for a certain time limit might help...i think most of us are just used to typo's and read over them, but they bug me when I do so many =)

I would be curious why the doctor's who come in here just pop in the member's community pick a couple of new member's posts and reply; then pop out.. I know there are so many members out there who need help.

oh btw, I gave an instance of the other forum earlier only to find that heavy handed moderation at work again...which is alot more frustrating than no edit button lol

we were discussing disabilities and I put in my journal about my limitations of how my disabilities limit me for others to see how limiting Dysautonomia (autonomic dysfunction) can be and a moderator removed it...[sigh] I didn't break any rules and they didn't send me an email or pm explaining why, they just deleted hours of work

I think I can live without an edit button if I have to =)

If you're talking about the doctor than has some replies to question on the Heart Disease Forum, I think I can shed a little light. Those questions were originally posted on the expert forum and got moved to the Heart Disease Forum. I have not asked why, but I will next time I speak with a Mod.

this was in the HR forum here on May 30th, so maybe that's what happened with those posts also, thanks for the info that would make sense if the posts were moved - just wasn't connecting the dots.

the posts in the HD expert forum was back in March...there was a week or so where no doctor answered, then when they did went to newer posts, could have just been an oversight with the amount of questions asked there - many of them could go in the HR expert forum but no dr has been there for many moons
