IS INCORRECT BREATHING THE ‘TRIGGER’ FOR SOME OF OUR WORST SYMPTOMS?

IS INCORRECT BREATHING THE ‘TRIGGER’ FOR SOME OF OUR WORST SYMPTOMS?

I am determined to stop being a victim and ‘take control’ as much as possible of my SVT and PVC problems which have dominated my life for the last 21 years. Our symptoms are real and frightening but after tests often we are told that we are fine and suffering from panic attacks! Then confused we may be given medication which makes our life even worse draining energy etc..
Researching breathing shows that  - HYPERVENTILATION EFFECTS BODY ACID BALANCE and the sort of changes which can occur are:
SUSPECTED HEART ATTACK
RAPID HEART BEAT
HEART ‘MISSING’ A BEAT
MUSCLE PAINS OR SPASMS
FATIGUE EXHAUSTION GENERAL WEAKNESS
SLEEP PROBLEMS
DIZZY SPELLS
THESE ARE VERY REAL AND NOT IMAGINED
So if we can eliminate hyperventilation from out lives then we can at least remove what appears to be a major ‘TRIGGER’ .
In normal circumstances al we need is Twelve regular breaths a minute to supply oxygen to the blood. Anything more especially if you are OVERBREATHING IN SHALLOW BREATHS and you could be in trouble.
The physiological changes produced by this include, constriction of blood vessels, the production of large amounts of adrenalin and increased activity of the sympathetic nervous system. It also increases the ability of the blood to clot and destabilises the rhythm of the heart.
So to breathe correctly place your hand on your abdomen and practice breathing slowly so that your hand rises and falls showing that you are breathing abdominally.
Our bodies act mechanically to certain stimuli and just as incorrect breathing will result in undesirable and real symptoms correct breathing will have the opposite effect.
SO WE TAKE CONTROL!!!

i find that interesting and agree about the breathing --esp if the beats are causing anxiety which may cause erratic breathing and bring on some of the symptoms u describe above ---------i suppose it all about learning to take control and being aware of your breathing when these symptoms with pvcs are worst.

good info

You are absolutely correct, I think!  I have SVT and AFib (which is Lone AFib- not the bad stuff- I think it is adreneline induced, sometimes called Adrenergenic AFib!)   Basically, I have panic disorder, but through counseling and self-education (as well as drastically changing my diet and exercise habits) have been able to function very, very well.  When I get upset, I either "over" breath and/or "under" breath.  Both of which causes hyperventilation, and inevitably, PVCs, etc.  When this happens, I have to consciously stop and assess my incorrect breathing, do a little "self-talk" and move on with some form of entertaining distraction!  Thanks for your excellent post!

I've got loads of research to back this up and the exciting thing is that it is a mechanical respnse. The body is perfect in what it does and it respnds to equip us for 'fight or flight'.
I am reaaly interested in thr 'VAGUS nerve' connection as I knpw you are.
Got loads of stuff on this and the exciting thing is it links the sympathetic (arousal response) and the parasympathetic (relaxation respnse)  nervous syetems.
As you said there is lots for us to read about here.
Lets understand the mechanical processes and then we are left with the real problem.
thanks for your comment

I love your comment ' have been able to function very very well' . Four years ago I fought back and today I still have problems but at least i understand most of them.
Like you i have drastically altered my diet and am now a dedicated 'mountain man' to the extent that in my workplace I have last week started a 'mountaineering club' as people want to be as fit as me (quite ironic if only they knew!!)
I read the posts and it really hurts me as I warsted so many years too frightened to live and so now am determined ,with the help of this forum, to see how many 'TRIGGERS' we can identify.
thanks

You have my attention!  I,too, have wasted too many years and opportunities (makes me sad to even think about them, so I don't anymore- only "forward thinking"!).  Tennis has been my choice of physical activity, along with walking 2-3 miles per day.  Yes, lets encourage one another to do our research- thanks for your insight.

It's having the confidence to start that is the big step - I can remember when I started checking my pulse all the time and staying close to the car in case antyhing happened.
Now I am up in the mountains - full days - miles from anywhere and it reaaly gives me confidence.
I hope more people in this forum read our stories and start their own first steps.
