It's been a hot minute since I've shown my face ...
It's not that my heart rhythm issues have suddenly disappeared, rather that I got used to them. However, recently I experienced a dramatic increase in the skipped heartbeats so many of us dread, so I decided it might be high time to try another 24-hour monitor on for size. I was duly monitored, and lucky for me (I know it's not always the case!) the monitor recorded the exact symptoms I was hoping to analyse. Half-dreading the call from my doctor that I was convinced would report the worst, I felt the weight of anticlimax when the diagnosis came as 'even during the symptoms you reported, the heart was beating in a normal rhythm.'
In short: how is this possible? Are not skipped heartbeats, such as the monitor recorded and I reported having experienced over the course of that day, by definition 'abnormal?'
Don't get me wrong: it is a relief to know that my arrhythmia is most likely not going to kill me. It's just difficult not to believe that something must be wrong, even benignly so ...
