fast heart beat

Hi all, I am 23years old and have suddenly been getting fast heart rates. It all started about 2 weeks ago in the morning around 6.30am when I was in bed I got chest pains. Fron the top of my chest the pain went down to the center of my chest then right side. This pain lasted for about 5 to 6 minutes. I had to get up and sit straight up in the living room on the couch. Then after the pain went away, my heart started pounding fast. I could actually feel my heart pounding when i put my hand on my chest. I got so scared because i was alone and this has never happened to me before. I thought i was going to collapse since i was alone in the house so i called the cab and went to E.R. But when i got in the car and arrived at the hospital, my heart was beating normal and i felt better. The did blood wirk, EKG, X-ray and all but they said everything was normal, and the doctor that saw me said it may have been reflux acid
But ever since that incident, everytime i get in the shower, my heart starts pounding i dont know why. Im even scared to get in the shower. Then after i shower and relax, my heart relaxes and beats normal. I went to the E.R again a week later after the 1st incident because my heart started pounding fast again and i had to take deep breathes to breath. The did the same tests as before, but they said everything was fine. I really dont know whats going on with me, i dont know what to do anymore im only 23years old too young to have this going on. Anybody knows what this could be. Im so scared to be alone in the house because sometimes i get scared my heart starts pounding all of a sudden and i have to breath in deep to get relaxed. Im having chest pains on upper chest above my breasts too, but they are light. Sometimes when i want to swallow food i feel like my throat is closed i cant swallow. I was thinking maybe its because of the change of wether since its really cold now abd maybe the cold got in my chest. But at the hospital they're saying all is good.

Thanks!! I will try drinking the ice water when it starts. Im glad to know im not the only one experiencing the fast heart beat when in the shower. I will be seeing a cardiologist on Monday so I hope they find whatever is going on and help me get this issue fixed.

something similiar happens to me when I shower or  in the heat outside from my Autonomic Dysfunction/Dysautonomia.  I lower the water temp a bit when I start feeling my heart start pounding and that does help somewhat.

dehydration from hot water can cause tachycardia or it could be that you have something in the ANS (autonomic nervous system) triggering a problem.  A tip I try when mine first starts is to drink ice water slowly and take deep breaths in and out to see if it helps the fast hr and breathing.

it's helpful if you keep a journal/log of dates; times and symptoms to help pinpoint a cause or trigger so when you see a dr they can see what's going on

No one can say for sure what is going on without seeing it on a monitor.  You say you were in the ER and felt the symptoms and they still stated you were normal?  That may mean that what you are experiencing is some sort of sinus tachycardia.  It is possible you are having some ectopic beats and it is triggering a bit of tachycardia in response.  In general most tachycardias are not a threat but I would make an appointment with your doctor to get referred to see a cardiologist if you can't go straight to a cardiologist.  They can give you a monitor to wear to catch whatever this is and devise a plan to correct the issue if possible or give guidance on how to manage what is going.  I will say though that acid reflux can cause the heart to act up so it is possible that simply working to control any of that will clear up your issues but go and make an appointment to get checked out proper.  The ER is only going to make sure that what you have isn't life threatening.  A doctor will investigate to figure out what it is.  Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing but try not to worry too much.  It is very likely what is going on isn't a threat to your health just something that needs to be tended to.  Take care.
