Should I see a doctor again for palpitations?

I had a heart problem so I saw the doctor. They put me on that monitor thing for two days (in which I did NOT have any problems). The doctor's response was I had palpitations and it was nothing to worry about. That was in 2007.

In the middle of last year, Dad passed away (aged 49.5). One of the reasons for his death was arrhythmia.
I have "palpitations" about once a week and it is uncomfortable. They last for about 3 seconds and it is difficult to breathe, but that could be me holdiing breath unconsciously.

Should I see the GP again?

Ask for a copy of the report of your visit as well as a copy of the EKG. You can learn a lot this way.

Hi there,Ive been haveing heart flutters now for a year, since i had my son a year a go.... the docs told me it was stress and also at that time i was stressed and also worried because i had it in my head i was gonna die for some silly reason, I see my doc again as they said it was NORMAL .....They then told me it was a heart MURMER and sent me for a HECO SCAN ..... They said my heart was working fine and all was ok and also put this down to ...anxiaty attacks and also panic attacks...... When i see the heart doc they also told me its NORMAL and they also see a lot of this in people age 20-30 ..... years old ..... Its worrying when this happens i must say and also it can go off and start again ..... if i feel cold it happens then ..... i also go heavy heads and some times light head ...... i hate going out in case i get took bad and also got it in my head i have bad heart and im gonna have a heart attack.....But the doc and also the heart docs say im fine and to try and keep chilled !!!!!  This as made my life hell to tell you the truth im worried to drink tea or coffee now because it does happen a lot if i do so ... and also if i go out of my home town i panic and also start to get 1 then and it will go off when i chill out .......I was just siting o the sofa not thinking of anything bad and i got one then it was like my heart had stoped and then just a bang and started again and then like little butterflys going over my heart .... really worrying !!!!! Sorry this is going on with you.....sounds to me like you may have a couple of issues with fear about your dad passing away so young.  Palpitations are very very common in people and if a holter was put on you for two days and the reading was fine i would relax a little bit.  Your father having an arrthymiatic diagnosis really doesn't have anything to do with your future.  It would if he would have passed away from a heart attack at that young of age but doesn't mean you will just that you would be in a higher risk group. I agree w. Debbier.....instead of going to your regular doc you should see a cardioligist if nothing else then to sit down with them and for them to reasssure you that you will not die suddenly from palps just so you can move on from this point in your life.  In saying that you had the palps for three seconds sounds fairly normal to me...you have to remember that some people get palps that can last months and months.  I think maybe you have a little anxiety thing going on and need to find a safe place in your heart and mind with dealing with your fathers death.....i am so sorry for your loss and know how hard it is...both of my parents are gone.....i think the first step is to get reassurance from a heart doc and the second thing is to open up to family and friends if possible about how you are feeling inside and don't leave anything out.  You may just be a little surprised and they may be feeling the same thing as you are.  Good luck to you and i would honestly say i doubt you have anything to worry about and the loss of a loved one effects people for quite awhile.....God Speed to you......................

I think you should see a cardiologist and get an event monitor, you can have them at home for 2 weeks to 30 days and try and catch an episode.  With a family history I would be persistent.  Do you know what type of arrythmia your father had?

Good Luck!
