Skipped beats with shortness of breath

Hi, I am a 20 year old male; I am 5 foot 10 inches and weigh 174 pounds. I have had a problem with my heart skipping beats for about 4-5 years.  It sometimes happens a my resting heartbeat, but rarely.  The time when it mainly happens is after I exercise(during exercise to, but not nearly as bad).  I almost always have an episode where it will skip for nearly 3-4 hours after I exercise and often several times in a minute within this 3 hour period, sometimes every 3rd or 4th beat.  When this happens I have a strange emptyness feeling in my chest and I get shortness of breath,  it also causes me to have a slight headache and feel a little dizzy.  It kind of seems that my heart is trying to relax when it happens because when I start coughing or go run it stops.  This skipping beats buissness really has me a little worried. Could this be killing my brain cells? What should I do?  I had a couple of scary episodes in the past where my heart went completely haywire while I was working out(pulse accelerating/slowing, skips, double beats).  At one point I couldn't even walk up stairs with out my heart going crazy.  I saw a Cardiologist and ended up getting a Catheter Ablation for this about two years ago.  I geuss it worked in the fact that I haven't had one of those crazy episodes during exercise, at least not yet, but rather I have a long period full of numerous skipped beats after exercise.   Also, since I have had the Ablation I feel stinging to every heart beat when I stand up straight after exercise; when I bend slightly it goes away.  Could this be something due to the Ablation?  Also, sometimes during a day I will feel really short of breath for about 5-10 seconds then it just goes away, even if my heart is not palpitating.

Hi Josh, if it were me I'd go back to the EP for more studies.  It's not uncommon to need more than one ablation to achieve desirable results.  You're not killing brain cells, you are completely lacking in any symptoms that would be cause for concern.  I will not go into details because if you're like me, you will read them then start thinking they are happening.  :-)

Get back to the EP for a checkup.

Hi i read your post....first off let me reassure you that your brain cells are not dying...we have millions of electrical patterns that go thru our brain and the cells regenerate themselves so on that point you can relax...it sounds to me like the ablation did its job from what you described in your post.  I know that i had mr ablation 3 years ago and went thru a period of time also at the gym where i felt like this weird really fast ice pick stab in the heart that felt hot to me and ran back to the heart doc and he told me what i was feeling was that after the ablation where he re routed the electrical activity pattern  and cryo'd the bad spots that what i was feeling a couple of years later was actually my elec. pattern trying to go back to the bad path not the new path and it was my heart re directing it the way it was supposed to go and was a very common occurance..  You also have to remember that you don't always feel palpatations when they occur and they may be "silent" to you but not your heart.  As far as the shortness of breath goes i would definately make a call tomorrow to the heart doc that did the ablation and give them a heads up so that they can give you an idea of what may be going on..  I don't see anything too alarming here and would relax a little bit Josh but definately make the call just to be on the safe side.  Good luck to you and keep us posted.....
