borderline lvh

Hi there,
my name is nicole, i'm 38 yrs old. I had an echo done last year aound this time that said i had borderline lvh, just a little thickening going on. my heart showed to be funtioning completly normal. 60% with blood out flow, all the numbers seem to be normal. I currently had a physical and my cholesterol and blood work came back great. My blood pressure has been pretty good. I believe it was 122/80. it usually is in the 130's over 80.My question would be... how much do i have to worry abou this lvh? can i still do my elliptical machine? I don't smoke, but i do like have to have drinks(alcohol). Can i continue to do these things? I try to stay calm, but i do notice myself having to take deep breaths now and then when i get worried or anxious.

This discussion is related to borderline left ventricular hypertrophy & PVC.

Apparently, 16% of men and 19% of women in the USA have LVH.  I found this reassuring as I have mild LVH and the fact that it isn't 'rare' makes me feel better.

I think she meant LVH, left ventricular hypertrophy.

I have a little of that myself - I don't think mine was called borderline, but it was on the higher end of normal, if I recall.  I don't remember the exact thickness and volume measurements.

I don't know if you had a discussion with your doctor following that echo, but I would certainly do that.  But in general, I would think that if you feel up to working on your elliptical machine, you should do so.  I don't think that by exercising you are going to make your heart worse.

My cardiologist told me that there wasn't anything she would preclude me from doing, and I would imagine you'd get similar advice when you spoke to your doctor.

In my opinion the main problem expressed in your post is unnecessary worry.

There is some evidence that a drink or two is fine for most people, binge drinking is not good for anyone. I am not going to put a number on what "binge" is, but it is generally more than three drinks in my book.  Many will say no alcohol is the best practice, but I see no harm if a drink or two, even often, usually with a meal.

The IVH is a new one on me, looking it up I find: Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is bleeding inside or around the ventricles, the spaces in the brain....  is this what your are talking about?  I assume the "echo" you refer too was not an echocardiogram.  Or if it was, it wasn't where you got the IVH diagnosis.   I can't comment on this and perhaps no one else has responded for the same reason, not sure this is even related to heart rhythm, but given the fact that you have that condition I think it very wise to discuss the use of alcohol with the doctor who ordered the test that discovered the IVH.
