I had been doing CBC for the past 8 years and seeing it rising and lowering time to time. First CBC at my diagnosis showed 6700/mm3 TLC. But later at many times TLC went upto 13000 to low levels of 3500.
Last line edit: time to time activation of immune system.
See initially when u get any infection ur body's response it to produce more and more WBC to fight the infection resulting raised TLC. If the infection becomes chronic gradually the immune system gradually accepts it with eventual normalising of the count. Time to time the immune system re activates and this way count fluctuates up and down. This way liver is hurt in hbv by time to time activation of hbv.
Low wbc, low rbc, and low playlets are related to HBV and can be a flag for portal hypertension (is your spleen enlarged too) and/or cirrhosis.
How well do you monitor your HBV and are you on medication? I would make sure to continue to monitor blood to track progress (track wbc with differential, rbc, platlets, alt, AST, HBV DNA, and if you can hbsag quant, and probably metabolic panel for kidneys and such) and make sure your liver is in good shape by Fibroscan or biopsy.
I have over 10 years of monitoring and have consistent mild splenomegaly, low wbc but rbc and platelets are great. I monitor my HBV very closely and last check of bloodwork after Viread for 3 months my wbc has gone into the normal range, which actually is the highest yet in over 10 years. My Hepatologist does not think this is a fluke but only long term will tell for sure.
I have been told for many years that it can be quite common to have these low values if liver/spleen is impaired or just by the body constantly trying to fight the disease. If your spleen is enlarged it often will hord the WBC, rbc, and platlets.
Oh, Thanks for your info flyinsky.
For me low platelets during the activation of virus
I didn't get any info in net between co-relation between CBC test and HBV. So I wanted to check if any one has done this test. Have you done this test after you exposed to HBV? Are the results are abnormal?
It does affect, mostly all viral pathologies are associated with elevated neutrophils, ie neutrocytosis.
Low neutrophils or total count are not common in hbv
Ok Jatashankar,
Wanted to make sure that HBV doesn't affects CBC test results as it affects Vit D3 level.
U haven't gone for it so if u go may get readings at upper normal limits but still CBC varies time to time
What's the TLC and neutrophils.. If leukopenic u might need injectable medication to raise count ie myeloproliferation. But that's used in absolute indications
Lower than the normal range? Do we know what can we do to improve the counts?
It might affect these. My white blood cells and Red blood cells are both low.
