Hi Anu:

How old are you now?  Do you see a flactuation on your ALT and AST level?  My spouse also have it, and we are from Indian origin.

since she dyed of liver cancer she probably had hbv and cleared it, unfortunately many clear hbv when at end cirrhosis or cancer but of course there is nothing to do anymore.there is much higher risk of liver cancer only by diabetes

the main hbv transmission is mother to baby since 99% gets cronic in this case

that's normal at 500iu/ml you have immune control on replication so no need of drugs to do the same thing immune system does but if hbsag is at 1500iu/ml i'd try it since you will know by the 12 week if you will have chances on hbsag seroconversion or not and it just boost immune system so no worries about resistance or long therapies although the bad is some on interferon have very heavy sides

one of the top hepotologists of the world happens to be my doctor.

my dna level is or i should say was around 500 iu/ml before i foolishly starts baraclude by my gastro who is no longer my doctor.

when discussed with the hepatologist he just wanted me off the meds and never suggested interferon.

maybe i should ask about it more though knowing him, he would probably tell me to go home and not worry about a thing like he always does ..love him

you have to check liver damage by fibroscan to choose, if liver damage is f2 or higher i'd start

hbe negative is also related to hbv mutants that promote liver cancer from last studies, having those strains is better to treat

i'd also check the hbsag level, if lower than 1500iu/ml interferon has very high chances of hbv eradication

i'd definitely avoid tenofovir and entecavir fro the moment if liver damage is low since they don t eradicate virus but just lower replication, they are very good only stop advanced liver damage or liver cancer in case of mutated core or precore

no u shouldnt..
2750 is 750 above limit ( limit accoridng to 2007 guide is 2000 iu/ml) that will suggest treatment but i still wouldnt.. this number might vary from time to time.. if all other tests are normal then stay put
my 2 cents
