Genotype B patient : choice of Tenofovir or Entecavir ?

If I have a choice to take one of these drugs, which one is better for Genotype B? Tenofovir or Entecavir? How many mg should I take?  I'm 55 asian male, my HBV DNA has been around 1000 to 2000 iu/ml since my doc started tracking it in 2006 (infected probably at least  25 years ago) Are these drugs really bad for the kidney? What kinds of side effect I'm going to encounter? Thank you for any info. that you guys could share with me. Really appreciated.

Antivirals act on HBV equally without regard for genotype.

Both drugs ETV and TDF are just about equally as good and tolerable you can read about what they are on the manufacturers web site..

The major issue with prolong Entecavir use is cancer development.. Tenofovir kidney damage.. other then that it is pretty doable..

I take entecavir for 6 years.. side effects that I have experienced on it;

I developed high blood pressure 140/90 this has become an issue in about 1.5 years of use..

2. Hair has stopped growing, it is not falling out, i just don't need to have to cut it..

3. migraine headaches, that got better.. but the first months or so I was not able to sleep at all.

4. possible implication of development of fatty liver (steatosis) do to NUCs use, they all are implicated in this..

and the last issue is the associated toxicity with the prolonged use of antivirals...  Also long term use (> then 3 years) safety study on antivirals is not yet understood. But taking it for a year seems to be ok..

Your HBV numbers are good, considering you had it for 25 years, and if you don't have liver damage try to use interferon to try to clear hbv.. It should be the first line choice of treatment for young and healthy people without cirrhosis and advanced fibrosis.
