Avacodos ?

This might be a dumb ?, I am having a hard  time with this 20 grams of fat 3 times a day. I have high colesteral, and am not treating anymore with meds, because of fear of more liver damage. I was using fish oil, but while on treatment, I have all I can do to take the required meds. I have been eating alot of butter and toast, it is about the only thing I can chock down. I have thought about avacodos, it sounds some what healthier. My ? is how much avacodo do you need to eat in order to get to 20 grams?

That fat business was the pits. There are some things I still can't eat also. And certain songs and smells remind me of PI days.
You've got good advice. Chips, cheese, n avocados... I a;so went w/ baked potatoes n sour cream w cheese. Lotsa nuts (pricey), and the toast thing. I got to where I would eat pasta w. olive oil n herbs.
I'm so sorry you're still there. This too shall pass. It's almost like a nightmare at times. Some things, like protease inhibitors, are just meant to be survived and erased from our memory.
Oh, and I indulged in pop tarts and little pecan rolls too. They can be a semi low sodium treat. Or ice cream and turnovers... Let's just say I only lost about 5 lbs and have gained it back.  Don't forget the H2O.
Take care! Karen ;)

Oh yeah. I forgot about the salmon and egg white omelets too.
I was concerned about sat fat also. But it does boost the absorption and only lasts 12 weeks. I used high protein boost shakes also. I still keep them. They never made me nauseated.

I personally stay away from saturated fats. Avocados would be ideal as one cup cubed contains 240 calories with 22 grams of fat and only 3 of which is saturated fat. The thing is I can't stand the taste & texture of them.

http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1843/2

4 to 6 ounces of salmon
Almonds  1/3 to 1/2 cup (Almond butter)
My latest low in saturated fat is Organic walnut butter. It is incredible♫
Cheese

I can pretty much eat the same thing all the time and it doesn't bother me but some people need variety and to eat different kinds of foods. For a while there I would toss back olive oil & OJ as someone on here suggested and I found that I would get nauseous and itchy exactly two hours later when I did that.

I was wondering if the reason our Uric Acid levels are tested is to detect Gout. Gout is often the result of a high-fat diet. I think that's why it is wise to avoid the less healthy fats.
**This is just an idea. I haven't really investigated is this is the case or not**

I appreciate all the advice, a friend of mine just gave me a jar of organic coconut oil it says 1 tbsp contains 14 grams of fat, and 0 cholesterol, he asures me it does not taste bad it looks like a jar of vasoline. He says it melts in your mouth, yum, looks gross, and I am having trouble keeping things down! I will give it a try, I am still waiting on some Zofran, that I asked for Monday, you would think it was a Narcotic! It is good to hear from you Dave , I have thought about you , but I know were busy, thanks for the advice.avocados , might be a bit too expensive, on my budget, I had planned on peanut-butter, but I got sick on that the first day!

I'm so glad to see you too Dave you have been on my mind big time I am so glad you posted.

Regarding the statins, I was very reluctant to take them myself with my vast amount of liver damage.  My doctor finally insisted and said we would monitor my enzymes closely.  I'm glad I went on them my cholesterol dropped significantly and my enzymes appear to be OK.  It's a hard choice but if you need them, you should take them.  Heart attacks are more sudden than end stage...that is pretty much how the doctor put it to me that the damage I could be doing to my arteries would/could be less noticable but even more tragic.

Just my two cents for someone without much common sense ;)

A mere quarter cup of walnuts have 20g fat, most of which is the heart-healthy variety.  Complete with Omega 3 and 6.  If you can handle it, try putting 1/8 cup in with some Greek yogurt, mentioned by pooh.

When I was first on Incivek I ate quite a few avocados for the fat, usually 1 med. or 1 large, at dosing time, usually at 2pm or sometimes at night. I tried to eat a little something else too, toast or soup or something, just for more solid food. I figured one avocado had 20 grams of fat so I could eat soup and still get the fat from the avocado for one of my pill times.

This worked for awhile but then I got very sick of avocados and the last 3 I bought went to waste. Just could not eat them. I have found that after a while food I liked suddenly made me feel nauseated and I had to find something else to use instead. Greek yogurt really was a life saver. I got sick of it, but it was easy and I could keep it down.

Hope you find something that works well soon.

Avocadoes vary in their size, so bear in mind that a smaller avocado will have slightly less fat and calories, and a larger avocado may have more. Also consider that the size of the avocado pit may vary, leaving more or less actual avocado flesh inside.

Hi Mary Ann,
Glad to hear you have started tx. Interesting that you have high cholesterol as many people with HCV have low cholesterol.

Good luck my friend,
Dave
