The doctor in our Expert Forum, Douglas Dieterich, practices in NYC. Well worth the trip for the right doctor. Another good choice is Dr. Ira Jacobsen although he doesn't accept insurance.

thanks for all the Gastroenterologist but im not looking for Gastroenterologist i'm looking a Hepatologists..
My doc is a hepatologist but also a gastroenterologist. He is listed first as a gastroenterologist though. You need to call them and ask. Hope this helps.

A GI doc with a good hep client base would be just fine for treating hep....mine was awesome and many of us in here only used heptologists as a second opinion because it is much eaiser to find a good GI doc (and hep docs sometimes don't take insurance which is a big thing).
A heptologist would probably be a GI who specialized in hep - I bet originally they start out as GIs though.
PS I had my second opinion with Dr. Jacobson that Jim mentionned in NYC. Now THAT is some doctor - the best of the best. He doesn't take insurance but if you want the best that's it - you can submit out of network and get some money back but if that is not your main concern...........and are close enough to NYC - he's the guy but you'll have to wait a while to get in to see him he is the best and therefore has some incredible waiting list.
fortunately with hep that really isn't any giant rush.
Thank you all for the help of finding me a good MD
Which good MD did you go to?
I went through 3 GI doctors in the same department and just picked one and still dont like the one i pick very much... But i'm hoping to get in the telaprevir trial.. i'm going through the screening process right now... i still dont know if they are going to accept me..
