After 24 weeks of taking a PI you have resistant virii strains. Another protease inhibitor (such as victrelis) will work no better, and in all likelihood will not work as well. It will take about 2+ years for your resistant viral strains to revert back to "wild type", at which time you might either try another protease inhibitor or one in combination with other DAA's.
The short answers is no, retreating with another PI is not a useful option in the near future.

They are the same type of drug (NS3/4A protease inhibitor) so resistance will most likely be an issue

No not an option as you would have the same results. you need something that does not include interferon... Plenty of time for you guy just hang in there.
