He may have not read it. You should simply tell him that you have decided to add it to SOC with or without his support (be tactful of course), and that might motivate him to read it. After all, it is YOUR life and you probably know more about Alinia than your doc at this point.
frontlinetara up above mentioned Alinia having promise for 1b...how 'bout 1a geno?
gauf: I wrote an e-mail to my doc and then copied and pasted your info. from profile. Well over a week...no answer. Spoke w/np today...she says doc had just told her that he hadn't made up his mind and was still looking into it. ...as if I have the time.....growl.
HR told me that he didn't think it would be a big deal if I tried it a few days before...that the resistance wouldn't be an issue with only that...
I start a phaseII trial next month of Alinia + SOC. This will be the third go-round with SOC, plus I did 18 mo. of maint. IFN.
The protocol says 2/3 chance for Alinia, 1/3 chance of placebo. Everybody gets SOC. Decent odds...
CS is right, simulstart is best.
I wouldnt take Alinia without IFN.
Dont give the virus any chance to become resistant to it.
CS
HR recommends Lactobacillus GG taken concurrently with Alinia. Alinia will wipe your intestinal bacteria and the probiotic will replace it.
not everybody gets stomach issues on alinia...most didn't on the study, I think, not sure....some do though...personally, I'm going to take it for a little while before tx, see how it effects me as a stand alone, just to see....Kittyface, I think, said she had a few days of a little stomach issue, and that was all, mostly she didn't feel a thing from it...in 3 months of taking it...so we'll see....
Kalio and HepResearcher seemed to think this was a good plan as an add on. Kal finally got her SVR this time too!
Personally I couldnt have added it on cause the stomach issues were bad enough but if I needed and could have..why not?
My hepatologist is in his 70s, is well known and respected, was at the metting on Alinia this Nov. in Boston and when I asked if he would go off label with Alinia he didn't hesitate ONE second with a yes. Ask and you shall recieve :) (Maybe!!!, some docs are hesitant) good luck, jerry
There is info on my profile you can show to your doc. It worked for me!
Nitazoxsnide is listed in the 2007 Liver meeting as a good viral reduction agent for 1b genotypes. I am in contact with Roche to see if they are moving on this. I have had three tries at clearing the virus and am a genotype 1b. I am not starting the evaluation process for a transplant and wish to lower my viral load before the procedure. I also am excited about the Protease inhibitor R7128 which is also good for relapsers and genotype 1.
I asked my doc about it, he'd never heard of it. I'm going to check out prices for it when I travel to mex in 3 weeks. If I can get it without breaking the bank, I'm going to try it.
