Good luck Lili. It sounds like you are looking at all the angles. You might let your doctor know everything you are trying. Some herbs can be dangerous for the liver. I tried some. I cleared with triple. The colonoscopy isn't bad.
The psych eval is just to reassure your doctor that you are ready to be fully compliant with the meds. Some people start tx and then get discouraged for various reasons. Depression can hit. A psych eval can let them know where your thoughts are so they can offer assistance during treatment.
All my best to you.

Well, I am brand new here and know next to nothing. I was only just very recently diagnosed with HVC. I just posted about wanting the peginterferon with rivavirin tx but was told colonoscopy would be mandatory.

SOoooooooooo, here is my idea for myself and perhaps you might be interested as well. I have found information on a Chinese herbal medicine and I am going to try that whilst having my levels monitored by the gastroenterologist.

There is a some data on this treatment on the website of the US Department of Veterans Affairs:
  http://www.hepatitis.va.gov/provider/reviews/alternative-medicine.asp

They mis-spelled the name of the tablet as Cathy; it is Cathay and the company that makes it can be found here:
   http://www.cathayherbal.com/products.asp

If things do not go well, I might consider going overseas for the treatment where it will be cheaper and not demand potentially unnecessary tests like a psychiatric exam and colonoscopy.

But I will try the Cathay first and then the interferon with ribavirin. Especially we should be hopeful after reading Hector's post about upcoming tx for HVC in 2014.
Best of everything to all of us, Lili

What stage is your liver disease? (Results of a liver biopsy).

What genotype are you?

What type of doctor told you that you couldn't be treated for hepatitis C because of your heart problems? A hepatologist (liver specialist) or gastroenterologist (digestive system specialist)?
Selected patients with heart disease can be treated with peg-interferon treatment and ribavirin.

Dig Liver Dis. 2011 May;43(5):411-5. doi: 10.1016/j.dld.2010.12.011.

Safety and efficacy of peginterferon alpha plus ribavirin in patients with chronic hepatitis C and coexisting heart disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND:
Chronic hepatitis C patients with coexisting heart disease are often denied antiviral treatment due to safety concerns. However, this is not evidence-based.

AIMS:
To evaluate safety and efficacy of pegylated interferon and ribavirin in chronic hepatitis C patients with heart disease.

METHODS:
Patients with overt heart disease (ischaemic heart disease, prior mechanical heart valve replacement, chronic arrhythmias and cardiomyopathy) and chronic hepatitis C were treated with standard pegylated interferon/ribavirin doses for standard duration. Cardiovascular safety was monitored by electrocardiography, echocardiography and measurement of troponin and B-type natriuretic peptide.

RESULTS:
Twenty-three patients (65.2% male, median age 57 years, 47.8% genotype 1) were treated. Three patients (13%) suspended treatment prematurely; 52% obtained sustained virological response, 39% relapsed, 9% were non-responders. No serious adverse event was observed. Post-treatment clinical examination, electrocardiography and echocardiography did not show any sign of progression of the pre-existing heart disease.

CONCLUSIONS:
Treatment with pegylated interferon/ribavirin may be safely offered to carefully selected chronic hepatitis C patients with coexisting, clinically significant heart disease. In these patients, the outcome of antiviral treatment overlaps that observed in other patient subgroups."

Also in 2014 there will be non-interferon hep C treatment with and without peg-interferon so you might be able to treat then.

First, get treatment for your depression. There is no reason to suffer with depression when there are many effective treatments available. Besides many treatments will make your depression worse and you will probably be unable to complete treatment. All patients about to treat much get their depression under control before starting treatment.

Best to educate yourself about hep C and its treatment. You have many more options then you seem to be aware of.

Good luck!
Hector
