Hep C after Liver Transplant

I was wondering if anyone has experience Hep C Genotype 1A after a liver transplant? How did treatment go? My mom is almost 8 years post transplant and just found out today she has Hep C. Its a new condition she did not have it before transplant. Her transplant was due to a side effect for a medication she had to take long term for her arthritis. She was give multiply transfusions before and at time of transplant.

Like Hector, I too has a liver transplant and did hep C therapy successfully post transplant.

I can only say he has given good advice.
With a healthy liver, and a good doctor,  your mom should be able to get rid of this virus and continue to live a healthy long life.

Good luck.

Hi, I am a post liver transplant patient who treated his hepatitis C twice before my liver transplant and just recently after my liver transplant I treated for the third time and was cured.

Thanks to new available treatments hepatitis C treatment in post liver transplant patients is highly effective.and similar to pretransplant patients for the first time ever. Cure rates of 96% and higher (after treating with Harvoni for 12 weeks) has been seen in recent clinical trials in post liver transplant patients.Treatment has also been proven safe with very few complications in those without advanced cirrhosis in their new liver.

As will all medical issues post liver transplant, she should contact her transplant center and speak to them about her hepatitis C infection and its treatment. Only a liver transplant center has the knowledge and experience treating hepatitis C infection in post liver transplant patients . The transplant center will be aware of any current medical issues that might needed to be monitored and any possible drug to drug issues that might exist between the hep C treatment meds and her immunosuppressant medications.

Good luck to your mom.

Hi,  I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I do know two people who had genotype 1a after transplant and both cleared with the new drugs and are perfectly fine. I hope your mom treats and becomes free of hepatitis C. Wishing her the best.
