Hepatitis C & Lipoma's

Over the past several 4 years my Fiance' suffered from 2 Lipoma's, not aware at the time she suffered from Hepatitis C
She has just undergone 3 months of treatment which her Hepatologist advised her to stop.
Since the past 3 months she has experienced 6-7 Lioma's appearing in her hips and lower half of leg.
Has anyone experienced the same problem ?

Just curious whether the treatment of Peg Interferon & Ribavirin has been the cause of the lipoma's popping up so rapidly in the period of her course of treatment.......

Thank you so much for posting , I saw a post about a rash and then followed that post to this one.  For me the rash turned out to be cryoglobulinemia and it can be very painful as if progresses, I was told the only way to get rid of it was to get rid of Hep C, easier said than done.  I relapsed in Jan 2008 with triple combo trial containing SOC and Roche R1626, a polymerase inhibitor.  I now have to wait for something stronger.  I hope it will come out the end of this year.
A week or so ago I discovered a lump in my stomach, it was very scary, I have been told it is a lipoma.  Man with Hep C, the hits just keep on coming.
Thank you everyone for posting, I learn more here than I have ever learned at my doctors

Thankyou all for taking the interset into my forum and joining in the discussion over the year.
Fretboard i thankyou for the link you provided, i have read it and find it very interesting, that lipoma's has a lot in common with Hepatitis C.
Bear in mind, even though you may feel in good health the virus of hepatitis C can lie dormant for 20 - 30 years before it becomes active.
My Fiance' had several lipoma's removed over the years and at the time was not even diagnosed with Hepatitis C as the viraus had not become active.

interesting article Fretboard.  I too had a lymphoma, only one, but it was quite large and had it removed from the upper arm.

Lymphomas can be related to the HepC, I've never heard of an increase or a manifestation start due to tx but anything can happen with the advent of interferon as it seems to bring out the worse in us at times.  Check out Pubmed as I didn't look a long time or anything.and good luck.

Hi Cliff - I have Hepatitis C and am on Interferon and Ribavirin. After 6 months on the treatment I suddenly developed a crop of lipomas on my arms, hard bands of lipomas on my upper arms and large, long lipomas (i hope) in my abdomen. Never had anything like this before so I think it is caused by the anti-viral treatment although my consultant has never encountered this before.

Lipiomas are simply benign soft tissue tumors. They are never cancerous and do not turn cancerous. The tendency to get them is often inherited. They are made up of fat cells but changing eating habits does not help or cure the problem. They have absolutely nothing to do with hep C. They are common as we age in some people.

i started getting lipomas which occured about 4 years ago. I have never treated (treatment naive). I had a lipoma appear on the inner right arm under the muscle, one on my right hip, one on my right upper thigh, and one on the left side of my abdomen just above the groin. They all semed to appear at about the same time? They suddenely stopped growing but it concerned me. I am not sure why, but I did go on a low fat diet and eliminated most dairy products. Since then I seem to have less and less itching at night as well. I had the one lipoma removed in the doctors office (simple procedure).
So it appears that this can occur whether you are on peg+riba or not.
