Have you been checked for insulin resistance?
Alex
my dr is testing me to see if i have a problem with my thyroid or pancreas
he is not sure if my live won't release glucose or if my pancreas is being trigged to release insulin when its not needed.
basicly genia pigging me
OK your doc is looking into it. Good luck
You say you have been "taking interferon and ribavirin for 2 1/2 YEARS". "i stopped treatment in nov 09."
Do you mean 2 1/2 months?
Please clarify.

yes I took the treatment for 2 1/2 years my viral load is undetectable but these side effects are giving me a rough time

I've never really heard of anyone taking it for 2 1/2 years - were you on some form of maintenance therapy? When did you get to undetectible? Technically even with a slow response you should only be advised to do 72 weeks as a geno 1....and that is if you are UND before week 24. After that the odds are so low that doctors generally make you stop.
How many weeks of treatment is that - I did 72 and cannot imagine doing 128 or something like that without suffering some long term issues honestly. Interferon is a very very strong med and even just doing the 72 weeks I still suffer some autoimmune issues today myself.....but doubling the amount of time I would definitely 'assume' that you have having some form of insulin issue from the meds.
I was undetectable after my first 4 months. My Dr reduced my meds for the second six months . after completing my first year my viral load went back up so my Dr decided I needed another year and a half. this was recomended by emory hospital in atlanta. my life has changed so much i wonder who i am anymore. i even had to be driven home today because my surgar got so low i could function much less drive. after 2 tubes of glucose some chicken mixed nuts and a boiled egg my blood sugar level was only at 85
i sometimes wish i hadnt even started treatment. my viral load when i was first detected was 16million
Wow so you didn't clear until after week 24 and then they dropped your meds rather than take you off when you weren't responding? To me that makes no sense at all - I am so sorry this has happened to you.....honestly I don't know anything at all about insulin and things but there are some others here who have done alot of reading on it. I can understand how you feel that you wish you never had treated - I don't blame you one bit! Most doctors wouldn't have ever suggested such a radical course of treatment (and sounding senseless to me as well) but I'm no doctor.
It just makes me upset to have to hear what you are going through. I really don't understand it one little bit but I wish you all of the best in the world and hope somehow you find a doctor who can manage this for you and you can find some relief.
thank you for your comments. I am seeing another Dr to try and figure out what is going on with me
comment anytime you like , its good to talk to people who are going through thr same situations
