thanks Hector - no I do not drink alcohol and only take very minimal med for pain and inflammation. Haven't yet had liver biopsy, but had the 'fibrosure' blood test and it showed F1 - F2. ALT is up over 209 now (up about 80 points within past 3 mos). AST levels have also gone up but not nearly as fast - they're about 156. Wish I could get into a study for sofosbuvir until it's available. Hope you are doing well - thanks for your help :)
thanks for this site - it's great !
There is no relation between ALT level and the amount of liver disease.
What are your AST and alkaline phosphatase levels. One blood level tells little. ALT can rise to 200-300 due to alcohol. You should not drink alcohol or take any medicine that is toxic to the liver. Consultant with your gastroenterologist.
Do you mean a liver biopsy indicated that your fibrosis is stage 1 or stage 2?
How fast does liver disease progress? It usually takes 20-40 years for it to progress to cirrhosis from first infection.
The vast majority of people infected with hepatitis C have no symptoms and patients with stage 1 or 2 liver disease normally have no symptoms.
You say you have tenderness? What did the biopsy say about the level on inflammation you have?
Get an appointment with a gastroenterologist and find out what is causing the pain in your abdomen. Pain in the abdomen should never be ignored as there are many causes of abdominal pain and some are very serious.
Good luck!
Hector
