uncontrollable itchy scalp

I am on week 11 of treatment, interferon and riba, about 2 weeks ago, my scalp started to get very itchy, I have used a variety of different shampoos for dandruff, none seem to work on helping the itch. It seems to be worse in the evening when I'm finally relaxing. Is this common and does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried Neutrogena T Gel yet? That one did a pretty good job of keeping my itching and dandruff in check. Benadryl helps, too. You may consider asking your doctor for something stronger for the itching, like Atarax.

I had the exact same thing -- it was terrible!

What worked on the scalp reasonably well was using either johnson's baby shampoo or selsen blue, and a ton of scalpicin, which is topical hydrocortisone for the scalp.  Also took a lot of benadryl.

Hi gypsy, this is an old thread from 2009.What helped me with the itchy skin and rashes during treatment was the Thera Wise-SHO Bio Active Skin Healing Ointment. It releaved the itching to a minimum,it also helped with the rashes.Or just plain old fashion olive oil does wonders for some.

All the best to you

is it just your scalp that itches?  does it feel like it's from the inside or something?  i started itching really badly about week 12 and turns out it was a reaction to the riba....an allergy, not a dry-skin thing (altho i tried a lot of the lotions and shampoos out there)....so my doctor told me to take benadryl at night and zyrtec during the day.   He said he could reduce my riba dose if it got too bad, but with the allergy meds it was manageable.
hope this helps.
good luck!  keep it up!

Tea tree oil is also great to relieve itchy skin,I presume tea tree shampoo would be good for itchy scalp.Always ask your doctor first if it's ok to use.
