must stop incivek

I have to stop incivek after tonight due to rash. I am taking my last dose then because I will have completed 80% of the 12 weeks ( I am at 9.6 weeks). I did not want to stop early, especially this close to 12 weeks but it is spreading and intense. I will continue with the peg and riba still at full dose. Still hope to be undetectable again at 12 weeks. Hang in there everyone. I am sorry. Now I will be a different kind of guinea pig with 9.6 weeks of incivek and total tx of 24. Good luck everyone.

So sorry to hear about the rash making you discontinue Incivek, the study did do an 8 and 12 week trial and there was little difference between the two.
I can really sympathize, when I was told to stop my meds (on a triple trial) early I was disappointed however many people with less damage than I, did get to UND and are still there
I wish you all the best
What helps you with the itch?

Ouch bless your heart! Well wishing you an itchy free night, hope it feels much better for you soon, and you were so close to the end of 12 weeks, like everyone else is saying I don't think that is going to change your chances of clearing though. Good luck...anne

My heart goes out to you going this this struggle with the rash and blisters.   I'm only on Inf/Riba and a major rash issue, but fortunately have it under control now.  If I was on incivek, I'd probably be a walking blistery rash myself.  I can imagine the pain and discomfort you're going through.  You can only take so much of the this, so your decision to stop 2.5 weeks early is your way to get through the rest of trt.  Good for you.  The remainder won't be a breeze, but once the rash isn't driving you nuts, then getting through the day and sleeping at night will be much easier.   Good luck with the rest of trt, and we're all pulling for a successful outcome for you  :)

So sorry to hear you're going through all this.  I am one of the people who took Incivek for 8 weeks and cleared (SVR 2+ years!) so I'll be rooting for you!  Hope the rash clears quickly now.  Lapis

My doc at mayo who has experience with the incevik says if you can complete 8 weeks you have an excellent chance of success and you did more.

It also satys if you have the rash over 50% of your body one should end the telaprevir, and it sounds like you do......Hang in there in a few days you should be better.

I don't think tonight will get me any sleep however your support is tremendous. One of the things that makes this hard to deal with in cyber land here is we can't see other to see what is going on and when it comes to rashes they are hard to describe. My arms have tiny red blisters as do my scalp and shoulders. One thing my doc said was that you can end up with a rash that looks like a sunburn that can put you in the hospital. The rash on my chest has the tiny blisters but somehow it does look like a sunburn when you just look at it without getting too close. I am trying to describe it because I know other people are at or close to where I am meds wise. No, I haven't been in the sun at all. I had joked earlier that I look like Caspar and I do. I have not even been overheated. willbb thanks for numbers. I hope to be in that 87%! And beeblessed and all feel free to share my story. I guess we will see what happens now.
Thanks again,
G

Sorry to hear the rash has become so unbearable and it seems your doctor is making a good call ,as it can get really out of hand sometimes.

Cando was right on the money when he says that in trials .doing incivek for 8 weeks and getting the RVR ..the results were only negligible different when doing 12 weeks

The 12 week group who RVR"d were 92% successful and the 8 week group was 87%... and you actually did 9 1/2  so your chances are still  excellent  indeed .

Hope the rash dissipates quickly for you and good luck the rest of the way..

I'm glad you're going to have an itch free night... We've shared some stories, but girl you got hit hard w/ it. These drugs are amazing. I'm glad you were able to tolerate it as long as you did. You've got a running start!
Take care o you. Gosh do I envy the sleep you're gonna get. lol. For real.
Behind you 100%, xo Karen :)

Hey Gerbils.  I think you are making the best decision for your level of tolerance and am sure you really pushed yourself to get this far.  So don't feel like you are letting your cyber-friends down.  I haven't even started yet and I totally understand your wanting/needing to stop.  I plan to share your story, as well as others, with my Hepatologist (even though I will be on VIC) to help aid her future patients.  We are all learning from each other here, but the docs can benefit from this information too.  All the best to you.  Wishing you relief and freedom from the itchy.  Be blessed!

It isn't his ideal but he said that most people only take 80% of their meds. I think that is how he explained it. The goal was definitely 12 but this is unbearable.

Yeah. My doc thinks we should just stop rather than go to RX creams. My arms are covered in tiny blisters, I have them on my shoulders and chest. The bumps have spread to my legs and I already have them on my back. My scalp is agony and so is my neck.

Thanks for the encouragement can-do. I hope you are right.

Should ask if this is your doctors ideal??? I've been seeing this 80% rule thrown around here lately and that has only been for SOC only. And even then not all doctors buy into that rule.

That rash can be a real show stopper for some, Wouldn't sweat it to much though as you were a RVR and in the 8 week trial for telaprevir the SVR rate were just a few % points below the 12 week rate and you did close to ten.

Best to you,
cando

No type of ointment or Cream is working, my doc told me to use cortisone at first if it doesn't work he would prescribe something for me. Have you tried that? He didn't give me the name. Joe
