Monte,
thanks for sharing your story. Do you know your genotype? I assume you are not Geno 1, thus the short SOC treatment. Good luck to you!
Sandy
AH such dramatic changes since I treated back in 2005, we used to have to gobble handfulls of the stuff - this is much better!!!!!!!!!
It is ribavirin. I take 1200mg a day. One 600mg pill in the morning and 1 600mg pill in the evening.
Once my hemoglobin level went down it changed to 600 in the morning and 400 in the evening.
I had heard it was multiple smaller dose pills for others, but my drug company provided me with one big pill.
Monte just asking you said you take a pill every morning and every night but if you are talking about ribavirin it would be more than one pill each time. What meds are you talking about, just wanted to be clear about that in case any newbies look.
Thankyou for sharing your story on your blog therefore spreading awareness of this insidious disease. It was well said.
My dad was a golfer. I put his ashes in Spanish Bay off of Pebble Beach his favorite course in the world.
A recent article a doctor stated 1 in 45 people have hep c and 2/3rds have no idea that they have it.
Good luck!
Good luck with your treatment as you know there are many of us who are cured of this disease, I hope you join the ranks soon!
Welcome Monte! Glad your treatment is working. Thanks for sharing your story with a part of the populations that may not be informed about hepatitis and liver disease. We need more well-known people in all walks of life to help erase the stigma from this disease so more people get tested and cured before they develop advanced liver disease.
Yes, it is very sad to see a mighty man like Joe Frazier stuck down by complications of advanced liver disease. As you know, Mickey Mantle also died of liver cancer.
I hope your dad is doing well. I remember him from back in the day.
Your dad is still remember for his stand for the Munich Massacre athletes. Cheers to your dad!
I wish you all the best! SVR all the way. Stay healthy!
Hector
First, I am sorry to hear you contracted Hep C. I am hopeing your treatment results in permanent SVR.
I really want to thank you for posting your story in your blog. Most people know nothing about Hep C and, if they know anything, it is usually incorrect or full of misconceptions. People need to be made aware of this silent killer among us and the facts surrounding it. I think you said it all very well (and is what most or all of us experienced too), starting with the shock of diagnosis, the immediate fear that you would be dead in a year, the horror at what potentially awaited you, the physical symptoms, the side effects of the meds, and more.
Thanks again for raising awareness. And, good luck.
