I posted a thread here 6 weeks ago, when my father showed all the signs of a heavy acute dose of a mystery hepatitis, and indeed thats what he had. He has recovered from the hepatitis over a 3 month period, but his lethargy camouflaged another serious problem which was overlooked, and was a direct result of having a bout of hep. His hep required 18 days hospitalization with extreme symptoms of fever, jandice and pains.
Upon discharge, he developed muscle wastage, numbness in legs and hands, severe difficulty walking - bordering on paralysis. No reflex from the knees and elbow.
This has been diagnosed as Guillain Barre Syndrome today. Almost all cases of Guillain barre are after acute viral or bacterial infection. In my dads case, it was non A-E.
If you are recovering from hep, have difficulty walking, numbness and tingling of feet/hands, or respiritory problems, speech problems, paralysis; discuss Guillain Barre Syndrome with a neurologist.
Before you ask, im not a clinician, or expert. Im raising awareness of my fathers hep and the resulting Guillain Barre Syndrome he now has.
There are some magnificent websites/forums available about this syndrome, especially the registered charity sites.
Thanks to all previous replies to my posts about my dads mystery hepatitis - It was not Hep e as thought nor any recognised hep.
My thoughts are with you all and your families
