Red hot palms and fingers

For about three months I have been getting red palms and they feel hot. I am female, have Hep c and was at stage 2 about  five years ago. Had lots of bloodwork done June/July by a rheumy checking for autoimmune markers.Low postitive RA and ANA. All other tests are normal, lipid, thyroid, inr, ptt, creatnine, albumin, lfts except bili is 1.3 over the high 1.2 limit. Any ideas? Can you get red palms without having cirrhosis and just hep c?

I do have HepC.  One of the 1st things my hepatologist did on my initial exam was to have me show him and a med school student who was shadowing him the palms of my hands.  Sure enough, to my surprise my palms were as red as a beet.  I had not even noticed this redness.  He promptly named the condition that I had, I cannot remember the clinical term.  He told the student it was a "text book" symptom of liver disease.  I had a liver transplant 5 years ago and still, though less often, get red palms and itchy hands and feet.  He gave me a Rx for the itching.  Ironically, it was the same Rx given to treat my child's itching related to Chicken Pox (Varicella Virus).  It helps some but warm or hot water still stimulates terrible itching of my hands and palm redness that can last for a few days.

I've had two different doctors a hepatologist and gastro ask me to hold out my hands and turn my palms face up.  They then proceeded to run their hands over my palms.  My palms are sometimes red.  I have thickening of the cords in my hands which appears similar to Dupuytrens Contracture.  I have read that both the thckening of the cords and red palms (Palmar Erythema) have to do liver disease and cirrhosis. Why not Google Liver disease and red palms. I would have embedded it here but I'm not sure how you do that.

Red/hot/dry palms can also be caused by certain vitamin/mineral deficiencies or overloads, hormone imbalances, thrombocytopenia, autoimmune disorders, and other metabolic issues.
Mild allergic reactions to latex gloves and soaps and even systemic allergic reactions to food or antibiotics.
Sometimes systemic yeast infections will also do it. It is unlikely the Hep C is responsible unless you have an iron overload (throbocytopenia) or your spleen is enlarged.

I have read numerous times there have been situations with HepC where the palms of your hands will become red, itchy and hot....bring it to your dr's attn as soon as you can.......it may be something else, but it may all be a part of your disease.  Good luck.....gold bond cream works great.....and may soothe your hands..:)

I thought red palms was a symptom of liver disease?

" red palms and they feel hot" is not symptom of liver disease or hepatitis C. I doubt if your doctor would be looking towards hep C or liver disease. Your PCP should be able to point you to a specialist who is more familiar with that type of problem. As was mentioned, depending on your age, it could be related to your hormone levels especially if your hands feel hot.

- You should have another biopsy after five years. You don't want to have your liver disease progress to advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis when you are not treating. If it does your advanced liver disease will lower your chances of cure using treatment.

Good luck.

It sounds like high levels of estrogen. I doubt you have cirrhosis because it takes years for that to develop....unless you're treating the Hepatitis C properly and not drinking.
