I'm exactly where you are with regards to deciding whether to go with Victrelis or Incevik but I'm a relapsed partial responder so I guess I get the full course whatever I do. Good luck.
My typing is very bad today , these damn nails .Plus I have a new laptop.
Thanks, this will be my 1st time treating , I have some concerns ;
1) I definetly need towork during treatmkent, give those days thar are intolerable will then mabe take vacation days,
2) I cannot stand itchiness-in any circumstance
3) I need to watch that riba rage, I have short fuse by nature naturally on good days so I cannot afford toget fired for freaking out at work
These are my main issues I think the rest I can tolerate, I hope.Thr fst thing I don't want to do .
Any suggestiond now that you know my queeries.
Agree with vann, If you never treated before, it's 24 or 28 weeks if you have a strong response as many do. Four weeks is what made me choose incivek. A Month less on pegasys would make a difference to me.
If you treated before, you may fit into a category that only treats for 36 weeks on victrelis if you have rapid response, otherwise they all pretty much go to week 48.
My gamble on the 24 weeks is working and am able to cope. Everyone is different though.
Copy man is also right, you should have a say in your treatment. Based on your medical history one may be better for you than the other. My doc wanted to treat me with victrelis because of my skin allergies but I pushed for incivek hoping I could manage the sides better than an extra month.
You do have a choice...be firm and clear. My Doctor usually treats with Telaprevir, but I knew I couldn't do the fat intake and I had a colon issue that concerned me with Telaprevir so he agreed to VIC. I also work a very demanding job and wanted to ease my way into the tx process. (shots/pills-etc.)
There is a timing difference though-
Telaprevir + Pegasys + ribavarin for 12 weeks and then 12 weeks of peg/RIBA (assuming you are UND at week 4) total 24 wks
with Vic ....you do 4 weeks of peg/RIBA lead in and then You add Victrelis for the next 24 weeks. (assuming you are UND at 8 weeks). Total 28 wks
I think I have this right...I know many others will chime in and correct me if I am wrong...
Glad to know you have a start date!! good luck and know you have some great folks here to guide you.
Thanks~
Vann
I suggested that to my hep nurse I think she said it's his decision, I want the one with the less side effects or at lleast the most tolerable sx, as far as the duration isit not a 2 week differnece only between the 2 ?
Don't be afraid to tell doctor what new drug you want to take. It is your body! Tell your doctor the drug you want to take. If they wont treat you with it then find a doctor that will let you chose. Both these drugs are rated about the same, 75% effective in eradicating the virus. They both have side effects, Incivik- rash and victrelis- anemia. The one thing that makes Incivik more poplar is the chance of only treating 24 week. That is a huge factor. Not having these harsh drugs in your body for a whole year is a big plus.
