Thanks robertwell and lovebird
And My SGPT has reduced slightly, it has came to 53.
I also pray that Muscle trauma must have caused it. I will keep posted about the further results.
Muscle trauma could explain elevated CPK but check your enzyme levels again in a month just to be sure. If you have insurance to cover it that is.
If you have no other risk factors, there's a good chance the injury caused the readings. Of course, no one here is a doctor, so be sure and consult one.
My CPK readings were almost identical to yours. In a couple weeks, three I think, things dropped to normal.
Good luck friend.
Robert
Hi i have done cpk , it is elevated to 570 .
Does it mean muscle turma only resulted in increase in sgpt ?
@robertbewell : things that you said got me little peace.
@tashka : thanks
Wait for about a month and then retest.
I can speak to this directly, for it is EXACTLY what led to my diagnosis.
AST, and to a lesser extent ALT, are made in other places in the body besides the liver. ALT is a more specific marker. AST is made in large quantities in, among other places, muscle tissue.
After laying off the gym for months, I went back in 4 days before my annual physical and hurt myself so bad I could hardly walk for two weeks. My legs and arms were literally frozen in place my muscles hurt so bad.
Long story short, my "liver enzymes" came back quite high on my physical - around 500 each. I mentioned the extreme exercise to my doctor, and he did another test called "CPK" which is a very specific marker for muscle injury. Mine was sky high.
Bottom line - if you think it's muscle related, get the CPK test. A high result indicates muscle injury.
At any rate, as others have said, the only thing really to be done at this point is wait awhile and retest the liver enzymes. My doc had me come back in a month to re-test.
Good luck
RBW
thanks tashka
How long should one be waiting for next liver enzyme test ?
Geez I am just talking off the top of my head - something I should NEVER do, but I come from a small town and the hospital here does all of the tests - they send them out- but they do them.
My neighbor who does not have Hep C has higher liver enzymes than do I, I am in the teens and she is up where you are. She also has Vit D deficiency, has gone through menopause and has osteoporosis. So, my point is, there are many reasons yours could be a little elevated but we here can only guess at the different options.
You should talk it over with your doctor if you have one. I found it so helpful to do my homework ahead of time by researching my questions on the net - CDC, Mayo, Johns Hopkins.
It's all just conjecture at this point. Sure it could be muscle strain, but it's just one possibility.
Try to get yourself some concrete test results and if you want to post them here, someone can tell you what they mean.
Will is right though - the hurt person would have to have had hep c .
My best, Anne
Slight elevation of liver enzymes can happen for many, many reasons. Sometimes it happens for no reason at all. First of all, you should test your liver enzymes again. If they are still elevated, your doctor should investigate it. He can run the antibody tests for different kind of hepatitis and do some other labs. Muscle damage is a possible reason, but I would still insist on hepatitis testing.
You couldn't get hepatitis C or B from the interaction you describe. If you didn't have an open wound, there could be no transmission. But there is always probability of you getting it at some earlier point. Just make sure your doctor follows up on this. Let us know what happens.
thank you anne and will .
I don't have rich facilities near my place to do a pcr kind of test . So i underwent a liver enzyme test.
But will the muscle tear happened before a week could result in slight elevation ?
If so anybody have any idea after muscle tear how long does it take to reach normal ?
Hi there... In order for you to have contracted HCV,the person you helped would have obviously need to be infected as well as their blood entering your blood stream.Given those two facts the chances are remote that you were infected with HCV.however not impossible.
There are many things that can cause elevation of liver enzymes other than HCV as Anne has said, and yes muscle damage is one of those.
Because you were exposed to blood it would always be on the safe side to ask you doc to do a blood test ,for any diseases .
Good luck
Will
By the way - ALT and AST are the same as SGPT and SGOT
Hi - DON"T PANIC !!
Many things can cause your liver enzymes to be elevated and yours are only slightly elevated. If it puts your mind at ease, you should specifically get tested for HCV. I was acute last July and my enzymes were ALT 327 and ALT 162. If you want to do some reading before someone with more expertise than I gets back to you, Google "elevated ALT/AST. The Mayo Clinic site is good.
Calm down - it will all be okay whatever happens.
Anne
bad title for the post ... it must have been "broken down mentally - need help"
sorry for the poor explanation , am not in a mood to put words to convey properly
