Wow cool thank u for the info sooooooo much!
Would be nice if md told me

as to vit d both infections/cancers and abnormal bmi lower vit d and it is difficult to rise levels if you are overweight too even with 5000iu.
there are no dangers on any dose as long as you check calcium in urine and vitd25oh serum levels monthly.
10000iu daily is better until you reach 40-50ng/ml then you can lower to 5000iu
if you go without checking serum levels and calcium it is safe to stay on 5000iu but for overweight studies showed it doesnt work on this dose and takes years to rise a little
My heptalogist told me to take 2000mg of Vitamin D, daily.
Its easy to buy at health food stores, pharmacies and online.
Bill's advice is 100% correct. I would follow his suggestions.

In flight somewhere over midwest using Google Chrome laptop. Can't wait to get back to "the city by the bay"!
it probably would not hurt to start taking D supplements. my primary care doc says that he has plenty of patients that work outdoors in colorado and still have low vitamin d.
when i started treatment, i looked at how people have tried to raise platelets with diet, but i don't believe there is much data to support raising platelets with diet or supplements.
all things being equal i suppose it does make sense to reduce BMI. thought most clinical trials that i looked at would take folks with bmi's as high 35. i wonder if i might make more sense to concentrate on cardiac fitness since hemolytic anemia is so prevalent among those on treatment. improved cardiac fitness may make the low levels on hemoglobin more tolerable.

Yes I guess I have to get on vit D ASAP
It was so bad a few months ago
But maybe without the sun I am slipping
So I will look into supplements
I also need to lose weight:-)
Thank you
Ps
So eggs can't increase platelets?
I went off Wellbutrin 4 years ago for a surgery for 2 weeks, md said it causes bleeding and I believe her
I have looked it up and there is some documentation of this
So I went off for the recent liver biopsy
And then I noticed my increase in platelets
So now for sure I am staying off given the upcoming TX
I would take vitamins for d but is it safe for hep c? I got sick from vitamin a
Don't have biopsy results till next Monday
But think I am 3 or 4, given I was 2 almost 4 years ago
Thank you
My platelets are 170
We're lower before
Off Wellbutrin raised .40
as hrsepwrguy says your platelets are fine. i started treatment around 100 and now they are in the mid 50's range which is fine for treatment. i still take 20mg of melatonin at night. if nothing else it helps with sleep. if your vitamin d3 is around 25 you could talk with the doc about supplementation. my primary doc ran a blood test 4 years back and at that time my d3 wars around 20. for the past 4 years i have taken 2,000 to 4,000 per day. since starting treatment 9 weeks ago i have kind of slacked off on vitamins. its hard enough for me to remember my treatment drugs! it does take a while for supplements to raise the d3 level. i think it took several months, at least, to raise it to the mid 40's. immediately prior to treatment i was around 70.

What can I do to increase but vitamin d levels which are low other (25) than sitting in sun, I am in north.

I live in Florida, spend hours outside and am still Vitiman D deficient. Discuss with your doctor the option of taking Vitamin D3 supplements. You can google Vitamin D and HCV, and will come up with many references to read.

Did you stop using Wellbutrin in an attempt to increase platelets? I think the drug only rarely results in thrombocytopenia:
‘...Hematologic side effects have rarely included ecchymosis, anemia, leukocytosis, leukopenia, lymphadenopathy, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia, and eosinophilia...’

To my knowledge there are no dietary means to increase platelets. Do you have cirrhosis? How low were your platelets previously? Platelets at 170,000 is by far sufficient to participate in HCV therapy.
I was also tested for vitamin D and found to be deficient. I take 5000 units D3 orally to supplement. Your doctor can guide you on dosage.
Good luck with treatment,
--Bill
Your platelets actually fall under normal ranges which are 140-415
This is a post from coeric who had low plates and managed to get them above a 100,000 to qualify him for a trial, you might PM him and get some of his thoughts on the matter.
Sep 27, 2011 .To: frijole.I have been taking melatonin for a while. A couple of months ago I increased the dose to around 20 and the platelets increased about 10. Cause and effect or coincidence - who can say. Maybe It will give me a little more wiggle room on interferon reduction. Many thanks to Ev for posting this. I know she believes it helped Joe.
