Although this MH post is very outdated (2003), I'd think the information still holds true.

Don't worry too much about the enzymes if your viral count is negative. In about 15% of people, the interferon itself causes the liver enzymes to stay up, it will normalize after the interferon is stops, in others, specially if the initial biopsy showed fatty liver, the fatty liver is responsible for the elevated enzymes. As long as the viral count is negative, stay on treatment."

Since you are UND and your enzymes went up despite that fact
it can`t be the virus.
Looks like you have a reaction to the meds which should stop
once you stop tx which will be soon.
Congratulations on your wk4 UND and short tx duration of only 24wks.
Low baseline VL is a plus too.

Good luck.

Are you taking any other meds , supplements ect.....?
Some people have a liver toxic reaction to INF.
It is either the tx meds or something else you are taking.
When did you first become UND and what were your enzymes
at that time ?

I noticed your baseline levels and I saw that they increased in April and are even higher now. I would hate to quote some obscure article I find related to that topic when there are likely lots of folks that very same thing happened to while they treated.

I saw where your haematologist told you to just worry about being UND and I think I would feel a little blown off by that comment. Still, if he isn't worried then maybe that is a good sign. Have you asked again since then?

Anywho, I am on week 18 too. I started on 13 Jan 2012 :)

I just read your May 10 post that said, "when you started treatment your ast and alt was like 62 and 80."

The thing is you posted that in an Alt/Ast-related thread dated 2008 and that may be the reason no one responded. Few folks want to pick up where a thread that dated leaves off since many of the circumstances of the new PI's completely change the ballgame.

Anyway, I remember that Cocksparrow guy and he simply states it is not unusual for those values to increase during treatment but does not say why. Isn't that the same type of assurance your doctor offers as well?

I would be freaked too but you still have a coupe of weeks to go so maybe your Alt & Ast will stabilize by then.
