Vitamin K2 = MK-7 = Menaquinone-7
Commercially = Nattokinase and/or Natto Extract = MK-7
It is thick and oily in gel cap form.
Individual clotting responses differ greatly for those with a liver condition.
I am a huge fan of this highly efficacious and promising supplement but no longer take it.
It is an extract from genetically unmodified (non-GMO) soybeans fermented with Bacillus subtilus natto. MK-7 is concentrated without solvents.
MK-7 (Menaquinone-7) is an enhanced bioactive form of vitamin K2, also known as Menaquinones. MK-7 from Natto is ten times better absorbed than K1 from spinach. While vitamin K1 is primarily absorbed by the liver, MK-7 is absorbed in extrahepatic tissues, such as the arterial wall, pancreas, and testes.
Vitamin K functions primarily as a co-factor for the enzyme gamma-glutamyl-carboxylase, responsible for carboxylation of specific bone proteins. Each softgel of MK-7 offers the amount of menaquinone-7 (MK-7) found in 120 grams of CHEESE!
Hepatocellular carcinoma and vitamin K.Mizuta T, Ozaki I.
Department of Internal Medicine, Saga Medical School, 5-1-1 Nabeshima, Saga, Japan.
On the basis of reports of the antitumor effects of vitamin K on various cancers, we clinically investigated the suppressive effects of vitamin K2 on tumor recurrence after curative treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our results showed that vitamin K2 administration significantly suppressed HCC recurrence. Our laboratory findings revealed that the inhibitory effect of vitamin K2 against HCC cell growth was generated by suppressing cyclin D1 expression through inhibition of NF-kappaB activation.
the thing that causes excessive bruising has to do with cellular structure and clotting abilities. The two thing that are known to most help this are
1. Vitamin C is known to increase cellular wall strength and hence prevents rupture of cell walls, allowing for additional pressure before bruising (burst cells and capilarries) begin to collaspe. Do not take a large dose of C if you have hep C, but a small daily addition is ok.
2. Vitamin K-2 is known to help prevent coagupathy, Vitamin K-1 and K2 are both essential to normal clotting, and smaller buising would indicate you were clotting faster.
Vitamin K is a liver friendly vitamin and several studies have shown it does reduce the risk of liver cancer substantially. Liver cancer is a great risk for those with HCV or cirhosis.. Do not take it if you are on blood thinner like cumadin or warfarrin, and check with your liver doctor, but I think this is an important vitamin.
One thing that happens is this vitamin is normally made in the gut, as it is essential to life...however, all the chemo, and antibiotics for infections can greatly reduce the bodys stores and ability to replenish this. Eat active yogurt cultures or buy refrigerated acidopholus cultues to take, and try to control diareha as much as possible.

Thanks for the responses. I believe my platelete count was 213 at my last CBC test. I just had more blood work this past Tuesday and have an appointment with my DR this Thursday. Hopefully, he will have some answers.
Again thank you!
My previous post should have been addressed to "gizmo", sorry.
So far mine I haven't had bruising this time. But I have heard that about NSAIDs before.
Beleive me I have CBCs once a week, if it is going to crash, it will be me!:>)
No, I was saying that bruising is common in infected Livers. One of the few signs.
Gizmoesgirl, was asking.
Thanks tho :)
Yes, it could be low platelets. Also, are you taking any nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve)? Any of these, esp in combination with low platelets could cause brusing and in fact my doctor didn't allow me NSAIDs on treatment, recommending Tylenol instead. In any event, discuss the situation with your doctor and FWIW I had lots of sfx on tx, but don't remember brusing being one of them.

10 weeks of treatment is enough time to develop thrombocytopenia (low platelets) which are components in your blood that are responsible for clotting, and could cause bruising, and in extreme cases, internal bleeding.
Call your treating doc, and if you have copies of your labs, what are your last platelet counts?
Bill
it is very common, infact it is one of the few signs of liver problems.
peg did that to me also, So far not problem with infergen.
Good luck and ice is your friend!
Deb
I don't know if its common but it sure does happen to me.
