Hello, do you have HCV?  Have you gotten your geno type?  Do you need the name of a doctor? Have you had a biopsy or other testing to determine how damaged your liver is?  Do you have insurance?  Do you need financial help for treating HCV?
Would you be interested in information about the new drugs?  Would you like to see the studies?
There are many many kind, caring knowledgeable experienced people here.
Would you like help?

I wish there was a "like" button! Take away the ability of big pharm to make big money, like Canada did for example, and you take away the incentive for these companies to develop/invent/discover new cures.

If you will take the time to read back throu the Forum posts, including the older posts, you will find a plethora of studies, the sites, information, and in some cases, quotes fromthose studies.

Another way is to go to the website of Gilead, AbbVie, Bristol-Myers, Squibb, and Merck and search for HepC studies.  ther may be a couple of other companies, but I am not sure.

Also, you can type 'Hepatitis C Studies and Trials' - or just one or the other -into the browser bar and have all the studies you could want.

Good luck.

Here is a ton of good info that Jules showed me. The cure rate that I referenced in my above post is on page 25, table 10. There is no direct link so copy and paste it into a new window: http://www.gilead.com/~/media/Files/pdfs/medicines/liver-disease/harvoni/harvoni_pi.pdf

Some doctors are better than others but I don't think that any one doctor can know all of the information that is archived on this site. There was one chart that showed a 95% cure rate with 12 weeks of Harvoni and 99% cure rate with 24 weeks. People here are posting one after another that they have cleared the virus. Gilead spent a lot of money to develop this drug combo and now they are reaping the benefits as are we!

"Are the Drs. up to snuff on this"
-----------------------------------------------
Knowledgeable and competent doctors are "up to snuff" on the treatment regimens. My suggestion is to see a Hepatologist (preferable) or a Gastroenterologist who is knowledgeable and competent in treating Hep C and who has treated many patients with Hep C (not all of them are competent and some have never treated people with hep C).

"Where are the studies if they are being done and what do they show."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are plenty of studies. The FDA won't approve the drugs unless there are studies that show that the drugs work. You have to search the web for the studies. Once you find them, the studies will give you the results of the various drug trials and what percent of people attained SVR. The studies on the most recent drug regiments show very good SVR rates, much higher than with previous drugs. Plus the drugs have fewer side effects and are better tolerated.

"and what about those cos. making the drugs. ..... Too many schmucks making big money on these drugs."

Yes, the drug companies are making big money off of those drugs. We all know that. It would be great if the drugs were cheaper and probably a lot more ethical and fair. However, for those of us who have been infected with Hep C, and I am one of them, I am very grateful that those drug companies are doing the research and making the drugs so that we can be cured. Hep C is a potentially fatal disease if not treated. Even those who do not die from liver disease caused by Hep C, suffer from extrahepatic manifestations, and the lifespans of those infected with Hep C are statistically significantly shortened from all cause mortality by the Hep C infection. So those drug companies are making money, yes, but they are saving lives. They are saving my life, and the lives of my friends, and the lives of everyone with Hep C.

I treated and was cured 3 years ago. I thank the drug companies every day that they found a cure for me and that I am not doomed to the ravages and misery of advancing liver disease, end stage liver disease, increasing and worsening extrahepatic manifestations, hepaticellular carcinoma, a shortened life span from all cause mortality (caused by Hep C), and death from Hep C induced medical problems.

The drug companies are saving our lives and the lives of our loved ones. For that I am eternally thankful.
