I remember well the sweats and chills after my first shot. Stay well-hydrated even though this means frequent trips to the toilet at night. Eat a healthy diet. Everyone says that exercise is good. I generally don't feel up to it, but sometimes feel a little better when I have had some.
I am in week 46 of TX. My side effects seem to get a little worse over the first 12 weeks, but they have been about the same since that.
Good luck,
Brent
My first 3 were pretty bad. The first one was definitely the worst. My temperature shot up near 39 degrees. Lost several kilos, couldn't eat. The nausea was really debilitating. Fever, joint aches, yada, yada, yada... I thought I had a pair of dead kidneys rotting in my back. I was nauseous and dizzy if I just walked around the block. I was extremely tired and needed to rest a lot.
After the third shot I started cycling again - gently. I was scared of passing out on the bike at first. A friend kindly rode with me just in case. By the 4th week I was riding up steep dirt tracks in the forest. Only half my original stamina, but it was a great joy for me because cycling is my happy drug.
I have just done number 8 and those physical symptoms have mellowed to a much more tolerable level. My trusty red vomit bucket has been put back in the laundry cupboard. I am recovering much more quickly each time.
I don't know about the longer term stuff like mouth sores and rashes that people mention. I haven't had any of that. The biggest problem for me so far is how the treatment is affecting my work, and therefore income. It is hard to read, multitask, and concentrate. My eyes hurt and my vision is blurred.
It is wearing me down physically, but I count myself reasonably lucky on the physical side of things. I have lost about 8 kilos since I started. I am more emotional than usual. I have less tolerance for irritants like the next door neighbour honking the car horn at 20 second intervals to get his wife's attention.
That is just my experience though. Every shot has been different for me. Time and time again I hear that the experience is different for everyone. It seems that the first few months are the most critical. It seems worth devoting yourself to helping it work. My approach has been to try to be a kind as I can to my liver and body. No alcohol at all, a lot less coffee and never coffee after 10 AM, eat good food, no other drugs, and I try to sleep/rest as much as I can when I need to. For me personally, making the effort to exercise has been a real help.
My best wishes to you.
New sides come and go over time - there really isn't any way to anticipate what will happen.
make sure you take a couple tylenol WITH the shot and then try and ride it out the best that you can. Treatment isn't fun but it's mostly doable....and it DOES work. After 72 weeks I am SVR for 16 months. It was worth it.
Everyone has different sides. My first shot I didnt have any sides. I am in week 17 or 18. I do have side effects now, but most of them are from the riba. I take my shot on Friday nights and take to advil pm. I usually sleep all night and am fine the next day, except Very Tired. Riba on the hand has given some sides: rash/rage/emtional.
It is differnet for everyone. some weeks i have a great week, and then some i have a couple of bad days.
you are at the right place. i got a lot of answers here.
good luck to you.
peace rita
This is normal. The sides may lessen..or they may get worse. it is diffferent for different people. Drink lots of water.
