hep c test

A member of My family had blood work.  They tested for the hepatitis.  Results show alt 85 (9-46u/l)  hep A reactive, hep C reactive , signal to cut 1.26 (range 1.00), The ast is 34 (10-40 u/l), gift 47 (3-70 u/l )  hep b non-reactive.   Dr wants next set of blood test done.  Is this something to be worried about.

I don't think you need to worry about Hep A or B.

The A test probably came back reactive because you've either been vaccinated or had it and cleared it.  It doesn't cause long term infection.

As for the Hep C, you do need the HCV RNA test.  If that comes back positive, just know that there are a lot of treatment options.  It can usually be cleared in 3 months.

The information you've presented here doesn't indicate that your liver is damaged.  But, the Dr may want to do more tests (if the HCV RNA is +).

Not sure what the next step is for Hepatitis A but it looks like as far as Hepatitis C goes you indeed show that you have been exposed to the virus. This does not necessarily mean you HAVE Hepatitis C (HCV). You have presence of the Hepatitis C Antibody (you have been exposed). The next step as far as HCV goes is to see if there is presence of the virus in your blood. This is the next step and the next blood test the doctor will do is HCV RNA.

You might want to post your question on the Hepatitis A forum as well as the Hepatitis B forum since they can better interpret results for those tests and advise.
