Personally as someone with cirrhosis who has had to endure the nocturnal torture of these cramps which on a 1-10 pain scale are about a 9 I don't think "they" have any idea of what the specific cause and effect is (other than "C" and/or advance liver disease, e.g., cirrhosis) regarding these cramps. I am happy that some of you have found ways to mitigate the cramp. But for me: none of these remedies work.....And like many symptoms they do "go and come" and are catalyzed by weight training for me at times.......Interestingly they have lessened with triple therapy and (to date) undetectability of the virus....d

i am sorry your husband is experiencing a fever. as a cirrhotic, acetaminophen is only fever reducer i can take.  i have been told not to take more than 2,000mg per day.  none of here are doctors, so there is really no way we could recommend medicine.  please contact your husband's doctor.

can you recommend some medicine for his fever? Fever is ups and down and would like to have an emergency medicine to lower down the fever. He has ascites on the abdomen which is big again despite being done parenthesis of around 2x6liters removed on his abdomen one month ago. He was also hospitalized due to diarrhea for 5days. He's allergy for analgesic/penicillin but can take lower dosage like bactrim . tks.

I agree with all above. Cramping is common with people who have cirrhosis.

Anyone with cirrhosis should be under the constant care care of a hepatologist. Call whatever doctor prescribed his medicines and let them know that your husband is having this issue. As Bill mentioned it could be and imbalance created by the furosemide/aldactone which are diuretics. This could be very dangerous and he needs to have a blood test to make sure this is not the case. Cirrhotics also have cramps due to causes that are unknown at the present time also.

"he is also having fever now". Call his doctor or go to ER if he is getting worse. Depending on how advanced his cirrhosis is, an infection can be extremely dangerous. This is nothing to take lightly. Cirrhotics have a weakened immune system and any virus, bacteria or fungus can have serious consequences on his heath and possibly his very life!

You don't say if he is decompensated. Ascites, encephalopathy, varicies etc.

After this incident you should re-evaluate the medical care your husband is receiving. It doesn't appear that they have informed you both of the seriousness of cirrhosis and the signs to watch out for when complications of the disease manifest themselves.

Good luck.
Hector

NOTE: cirrhosis is stage 4 not stage 3.

I used to  have them. The were so painful waking me up out of my sleep.
Force him to get up, put weight on the leg and walk. It is difficult but works. .
Another helpful aid is tonic water. Try drinking a glass before bed.
And magnesium supplements might help too.
However this only deals with the symptom not the cause.
Talk to his doctor.

I agree with Bill. The cramps may be due to electrolyte imbalance and that can be dangerous. He needs to see his doctor or a doctor. In my opinion, he should be seen as soon as possible, probably today.

Hi Imelda-

I’m sorry to hear of your husband’s situation. He needs to see his doctor; no one here will be able to advise him of a course of action. He may be experiencing an imbalance of electrolytes as a result of one or more of his diuretics; these may need to be adjusted, but blood tests will required if that is the case.

Good luck to you both-
