I do know that non-alcoholic wine and beer do have minute amounts of alcohol in them. I don't really know if that small amount matters.
However, there are some other beverages (in wine type bottles or champaign type bottles) that are quite tasty and look like wine and offer a bit of something special. They have no alcohol in them at all. I wish I could think of their brand names but I know I have had a very good pear drink (carbonated) in a champaign type bottle (even has the foil top wrap, lol). I purchased those at my local food co-op, healthy food store. I think the regular markets have some too, maybe made by Welches or someone, but I don't think those taste as exotic or are as refreshing as some of the others that are a little higher end. I have also had a delicious lemongrass drink (bottled in a wine type bottle) that was delicious, but I don't know where you would get that unless you live on one of the Coasts and shop at a large whole foods or co-op. I had to order the last case I got (after I moved from SF). Good totally non-alcoholoc drinks are available. One just has to find them.
Not a “Silly Question” at all. In fact I asked my Dr. the same question and was told “no problem.” However, I would not recommend anyone that has/had an alcohol problem drink non-alcohol beer or wine. In my opinion, it would be too risky.
My husband likes to drink a beer in the evenings and he bought non-alcohol beer for me while I was on tx. While they are not the same as a beer, they do give you that carbonation and the illusion that you're having a beer : )
I was told it's okay to drink these while on tx. Hope you have a nice dinner!
if I might ask what brand you tried?
I didn't like O'Doul's very much. Both Beck's and St. Pauli Girl (I think!) made alcohol free beers that I liked a little better.

Patients with Ongoing Alcohol Use
Alcohol is an important cofactor in the progression of HCV disease to cirrhosis and HCC (43) . Thus, patients with hepatitis C should limit or abstain from alcohol consumption. Limited data suggest that heavy alcohol consumption of >80 g/day (approximately eight drinks or more per day) reduces HCV treatment response. It is unknown whether consuming less alcohol compromises HCV treatmediscontinuation rates; however, in those who completed HCV therapy, SVR was similar in drinkers and nondrinkers (45) . Thus, alcohol users should not be excluded from antiviral therapy but treatment adherence should be stressed (9) .nt response (44) . In patients with recent alcohol consumption, there were higher treatment

Even in trials moderate alcohol seems to have no effect on treatment, the problem comes from adherence to treatment.
What has the most chance of jeopardizing treatment, a drink or reducing and or stopping treatment early?
Is this a trick question??? Was NOT talking about having a rum and coke! And yes I did reduce riba to AVOID procrit and NO I would NOT stop treatment early unless it was life threating and MY DR. told me to stop. So is that the right answer???????????? A little confused with your question. Thinking it was a bit of a put down because of the question I asked. If I am wrong then I stand corrected.
Chill out, no not a trick question and wasn't really directed to you. Just curious as i have seen this come up many times here.... So what do you think?
I can smell the Riba Rage through my monitor. Calm down, his question wasn’t an attack on you.
what I think is do whats right for you. Reduce if you have to and stop if Dr. tells you to and stay way from the well. I'm not an overly sensitive person even with all of this poison in my blood but your statement sounded a bit condescending. Just saying. No hard feelings. Just didnt get it. Didnt realize the question had been asked before. After all I am a newby :(
i wouldn't drink while on tx....but some do....i'm three months post now and might have a beer tonight ...we are going out...and non alcoholic drinks do have a little alcohol...i didn't use even mouthwash that had alcohol in it after i found i had hep c....my doctor would not tx anyone that drank alcohol...they didn't even want to see me if i drank years ago when i got my first bx...who knows....hope you have fun...billy
I have your answer~neither, it's simply the luck of the draw.
By that I mean, it's all very individual. Why does my friend have hep C and no liver damage while it took my liver out?
We keep searching for answers, what to do to improve our chances concerning this virus when the virus itself is so variable.
Anyway, that's my POV.
guess the point was missed. WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT DRINKING! I was asking about an non alcohol beer ! Guess I'm sorry to have even brought it up. I have never heard of a dr. telling you not to use mouth wash because of the alcohol, thats a bit over the edge. I used to work as a pharmacy tech and I no that people on anitbuse could not use mouthwash or perfume because of the alcohol but thats a whole different story. wow this is like that telephone game from days of old. You say one thing and it turns out being something else. Oh well. have a great night folks...........
Oh, these threads have a way of digressing all over the place, getting way off base.
Often the poster who wants a straight answer lands up frustrated.
Even when people try to keep it on target, it seems to happen no matter what.
Try mentioning 'ginger' and see what happens. (groan)
Remember, just 4 more weeks!
yikes ..this one got off the rails pretty good...
I heard Ginger was theraputic....
"Even in trials moderate alcohol seems to have no effect on treatment, the problem comes from adherence to treatment."
"What has the most chance of jeopardizing treatment, a drink or reducing and or stopping treatment early? "
------------------------------------
can-do's statements:
Moderate alcohol seems to have no effect on treatment.
Adherence to the treatment is the problem.
What has the most chance of jeopardizing treatment, a drink or reducing and or stopping treatment early?
(My take) In other words, someone who is drinking regularly, especially if it is more than moderately, may miss doses, may not adhere to the strict every 8 hour time schedule, and/or may stop treatment early for whatever reason. And those three things may jeapardize successful treatment more than a dink here or there.
Then what go to the well!!!! Just kidding!!!! I'm gonna get reported to the hep police...........trust me there is not a more compliant person on here. If my Dr. told me to drink my gallon of water on my head while singing the star bangled banner I would do it.......was NEVER a big drinker just trying to be part of the party. if you would. I dont think I know who Ginger is but will remember not to name drop. LOL!!! Maybe I could stop by and borrow a brownie???? LOL!!!!! I'll bring the ice cream!!! Who needs the other stuff when you have home made brownies. :)
more than a dink here or there.
-----------
I believe this is allowed on tx.....
Sorry, didn't mean to upset you. I though the post above the question i asked answered your question..... Its not believed even a few drinks will effect ones treatment, if i were you i would enjoy that non alcohol beer.
And yes i agree mouthwash is really streching it. My point his that so many who will warn you about even drinking a non alcohol beer will have no worries about reducing or stopping meds.
I guess I should not have posted that last post now that I see the 3 posts before it (slow typist).
Your question was a perfectly legitimate question and one which many wonder about. I am glad you posted it.
I hope you find a great beverage for tonight and I hope you have a wonderful evening.
@ can do thanks for the clarification. I was about to go out and comb the neighborhood for a dog to kick... Just Kidding!!!!!! That could start a whole new rage for someone. LOL!!!! Thanks again. Peace! :)
It's not a silly question. It sure seems to have galvanized a lot of emotion though. I'm an recovering alcoholic so I can't drink. Still, imo non-alcoholic beer tastes horrible and nothing like normal beer. Plus, no way could I consume such a huge amount of wasted calories and carbs.
Here is a cut an paste related to non-alcoholic wine that I agree with. It's like why bother with the charade when there are other high quality, flavorful beverages available:

I made some Chocolate Chip Cookies ONCE. I ate the first one and felt nothing, so I ate another one. I didn’t feel much so I ate 2 more. About a half-hour later I realized I should have given them more time to kick in and I shouldn’t have ate those last 2.
