Jim was the pinnacle of what makes these boards work IMHO. He was prolific, one of the most informed, wise, funny and a great writer.
He had a human side too, as was evidenced by his walk on the wild side with inflatables or obsessive tendencies with mattress selection.
A great human being, a prodigious poster and sage writer.
Merry Christmas Jim, if you ever get to reading this.

I had hoped this would be a tribute to Jim, not a fight.
Many people have said the place changed after the political thread that I started got so heated.
Here is a thread about one of the good guys on the forum and look what happened. There is clearly a lot of anger here on the part of many people. Those that seem to heap blame, should ask themselves what there involvement is
Sorry for that last post. I did not mean to address that to you.
Thank you for pointing out how this place used to be before all the back biting and nasty behavior started.
I apologize, Eric. My comment was perhaps due to a misunderstanding and I hope so. I did not mean to cast a shadow on your thread. This thread is for those that appreciated and miss Jim. I'm one of them. We didn't always agree on forum TOPICS and we allowed each other room to disagree without taking it to a personal level. I value that very much and, I'll hazard to say, something that seems to be sorely lacking on the forum lately, under personal evaluation with regards to myself also.
He was and is my friend. People inevitably leave the forum and I'm actually glad that Jim has moved on, if indeed this is permanent. I would hazard to guess that Jim just kept being increasingly involved in "offline" things and just never made his way back here. I do know he was starting to get involved in his outdoors pursuits that had been on hold for a very long time due to treatment and recovery from same .. and once you get going and feel the energy coming back into your life from that .. well...all I have to say is .. you go, Jim. No explanation required and gratitude from those of us who benefitted from your many contributions, one of them being me.
