sliding hiatal hernia

Hello! I am new to this site and glad i found it. I have a sliding hiatal hernia. It seems to be causung me a great deal of discomfort lately. I have been having severe heart burn and chest pain. Also, pain between my shoulder blades and acid reflux....not pleasant. I was wondering if anyone can relate to this so i dont feel like i am crazy.

I DO not want to go the surgery route and am hoping to get some tips or advice to get some relief! I am also hypothyroid with Hashimotos disease. Had my tyroid removed due to thyroid cancer. I have also joined the thyroid community group on here as well. Hope to hear some feedback! Thank you.

My 20 year old son was just diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia but his symptoms are terrible! Stomach pain etc. From the small amount of research I have done it seems like people have said oh yeah that's pretty common and you just live with it and manage the symptoms! Really! I don't think so. I can't imagine him living his life like that. Will research surgery. Mayo clinic website says they perform thousands a year.

Hi , I had a hiatus hernia ( sliding) and am in recovery (4th month) after key hole surgery for repair to the hernia. I had the hiatus hernia for the 10 years and suffered all of your mentioned symptoms. It got to the point where I was getting hard stomach pains ( felt like I was punched in the stomach) and felt like I wanted to vomit. I took over my life and I was afraid of eating so many foods. I ended up in hospital 4 months ago and was told I had to have emergency surgery as the stomach had pushed up through the diaphragm and was twisted below causing it to partially die off ( lack of circulation). My advice is to keep an eye on it! I was not told by all the doctors I'd seen over 10 years that this could happen. The surgery is not that bad, my stomach did not hurt after it. The only pain was the shoulder tip pain, caused by the gas they pump in the stomach to assist in surgery. I'm still suffering with that pain and seeking help but I would never go back to all the acid vomit nights and pill taking. I hope you look into having the surgery and I am more than happy to give more advice or help . Good luck xxx

Can you let us know which surgeon  you used? Which hospital? There are so many warnings with surgeries, and they all seem to boil down to using a VERY experienced surgeon in a comprehensive center. Thanks.
