Do I have herpes or not?

Hello doctor,
I had a full panel STD test recently. Everything came back negative except for HSV 1 & 2 IGM antibodies. The IGM antibody test came back with a 1.74.

The test ranges are
1.09 positive

I'm kind of freaking out over the IGM positive test result. My IgG antibody results for both HSV 1 and HSV 2 came back negative. I have always had protected sex. I have also made sure that both I and my sexual partners have had recent STD tests and that everything has come back negative before having sex. Could anyone expand on what my test result means and if I have herpes or not?

IGM tests should never be used to diagnose hsv. Disregard that result and look at the IgG. Now this is negative for HSV1 but it is important to point out that the test isn’t very accurate for HSV1 overall. It can miss up to 25% of infections. The most accurate test for hsv is the Western Blot which is only conducted at the University of Washington.
Have you ever had a cold sore? If not and you want to confirm infection, the Blot is the test you want.
